Hi, I am a Rick Friedman fan, have written three novels (incl. ONCE A SPY), and drew a portrait of James Mason once: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v49...
Hi all! I'm happy to be invited by Rick. I'm a YA/MG author of paranormal romance, supernatural fantasy, some sci-fi and horror. My books are Spellbound, Everspell, Ghostly, Teeth and Talons; A Horror Anthology, and my newest releases in 5 days. The Detention Demon is a middle grade horror released by Musa Publishing. Check out my blog: www.samanthacombswrites.blogspot.com or my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AuthorSamanth.... It's great to be here!
Hello! And hello Samantha, the last person to post before me. (Thought I'd pay it backward, ha!) Thanks to Rick for inviting me. I'm a writer of literary, historical, and young adult fiction who may one day write a little paranormal romance just for fun. My book River in the Sea is based on my mother's years growing up during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands during WWII. I'm self-published after going the traditional route for quite some time (MFA, even getting some awards, just not a publishing contract). The wonderful thing is that I just got a review today that said, "Why the publishing companies rejected this gem defies logic and comprehension." This is a silly thing to post here as an intro, but I just read this and need to share it! Feels sooooo good. :-)
I blog at www.tinaboscha.com and am on Facebook too.
I also sew and knit and snuggle with my boxers (dogs, not the undies!). I teach college writing, which means I'm mostly procrastinating because it's always grading time.
Excited to join the fun!
Greetings and thanks for the invite Rick! This looks like a very interesting group! Wish I had the time to go back and read ALL the threads. LOL I write historical fiction and hope to include a bit of paranormal into the mix some day. I recently sold my novel, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13... to Kensington Publishing Corp. :) :) Like Tina, (above) my novel is loosely based on my mother's experiences during WWII. The Plum Tree will be released in January 2013.Told from one of the best vantage points for witnessing the first cruelties and final ruin of the Third Reich—the German home front—The Plum Tree follows a young German woman through the chaos and carnage of WWII as she struggles to survive poverty and Allied bombs, finds the courage to outwit SS officers, and risks everything trying to save the love of her life, a Jewish man.
I love reading all genres and could never pick a favorite author! Although I have to admit my shelves are full of Stephen King and my favorite WWII book is "Those Who Save Us" by Jenna Blum!! For writing advice, I love Anne Lamott. I'm a wife, mother of five (two kids and three dogs) and Grandmother to two beautiful girls.
I'm excited to join this group and hope I can find the time to visit often. I'd love to have any of you friend me on my Facebook page under 'Ellen Marie Wiseman' or "like" my book page, www.facebook.com/ThePlumTreeNovel
Thanks!
Hi all! I'm L.A. Sherman, author of BENGALI GIRLS DON'T, my tell-all, fly-on-the-wall memoir of my life growing up in a strict Muslim home in the UK in the 1980s, my forced marriage in Bangladesh at 15 to a man old enough to be my father, and the best day in the world when I won the visa lottery for America. I currently live in Tampa, Florida with my family near a pond full of gators and spend most of my time doing all the things that Bengali girls don't. And if anyone here would like a FREE copy (kindle version) of my memoir, feel free to download a copy this Wednesday or Thursday (February 8 & 9). Thanks! http://amzn.to/Bengali-Girls-Dont

Hello my name is Darren. I am currently a seminary student at a local Catholic school in my area. I love to read all sorts of books. I also write occasionally.
Thanks to Rick for inviting me over to what appears to be a fabulous and diverse writers and readers group. I am Ray Van Horn, Jr., a music and film journalist plus author, poet, former NHL analyst and creator of original superhero fiction. I have conducted more than 300 interviews with national and international musicians, directors, actors, authors and visual artists. I am also a live concert photographer.I have one novel that's out-of-print, "Mentor," and have been working with a literary agent to refine my current project. I have also begun a music-themed collaboration with a drummer from a well-known underground heavy metal band.
Please come visit my blogsite, The Crash Pad of Ray Van Horn, Jr. (www.rayvanhornjr2.blogspot.com) for regular posts about the writing life, music, film and random flotsam. Today you can find a post about handling rejection letters, "Ray's Remedy For Gnawing Through Writer Rejection."

now have to ask about the NHL part of your bio- I am a Panther fanatic!! (let's forget last nite's game in DC!) your thoughts on Panthers and how much Kevin Dineen has contributed to them becoming a playoff contender?

Hello! I am Karen and thank you for including me in your group. I am a big Stephen King fan, but have been enjoying finding and reading books from new authors.
Rick wrote: "Thanks so much Ray- love your site!now have to ask about the NHL part of your bio- I am a Panther fanatic!! (let's forget last nite's game in DC!) your thoughts on Panthers and how much Kevin Dineen has contributed to them becoming a playoff contender?"
You better believe it Dineen is a factor. I need to catch more of Florida's games. I used to be on top of everything back when I still doing games but the past couple seasons have been troublesome in my keeping up every night with every score and stat, lol...family, obligations, etc. etc. Really, though, we still have another month-plus before Lord Stanley, so anything can happen, but I'm looking forward to seeing the Panthers enter into the Cup, bring in some fresh blood to the tourney. Hopefully nobody sets fire to their towns if their teams get bounced out this year.
Hi, all! I wanted to thank Rick for the invitation. I am an author from Pennsylvania with a wild imagination and a goal to write an ongoing series for as long as I am able. I started a fantasy series based in my own world, called the Realm of Ashenclaw. It was no easy feat! Not only did I have to write the book itself, but I needed to keep everything else about the world consistent. My own work and samples can be found on my blog: http://eyeonashenclaw.blogspot.com/?s...I have one full length novel out and one short story now with five more short stories edited and ready for release any time now. I am also halfway through a second full length novel in the series. If you like fantasy, please check it out!
I enjoy reading fantasy, sci-fi, horror and comedy for the most part. I just finished a Forgotten Realms novel called Doawnshadow that was very good and am reading A Dream of Storms from indie author, William Kenney. I enjoy supporting other independent authors, too, so if you know of any good ones in the fantasy realm, let me know about 'em! Please message me here if I can help you in anyway. Cheers!

Thanks for the invite to join this group. I write faith-based fiction, and my first novel was published last March - it's a romance that takes place during the Vietnam war. Happy Weekend, everyone!! Thanks for the invite, Rick. I look forward to getting to know everyone a little better. I am currently in the process of promoting my first novel. I published Forging Truth in December, just in time for Christmas. It's been doing okay this year. I'm happy with it's movement, but it could always grow.As far as my reading goes, I'm currently reading one of the Star Trek Typhon Pact books, as well as a couple others that I pick up occassionally and then put back down for a bit. I am also an avid comic book fan. Yay for geeks! My favorite author is Stephen King. Hey, I know that's not original, but there's a reason he's at the top of many-a-list.
Thanks for having me, everyone!

Thanks for the invitation! My debut novel, Crossing Values, released January 6th, 2012 and it's sequel is currently under contract and working its way through publication. In the midst of promoting the first book and waiting for the editor's comment on the second, I'm writing the third book.
I'm also a homeschooling mother of three, wife to a disabled veteran who thankfully is still able to work outside the home, and part-time staff at our church. I volunteer within two military ministries and try to keep our home menagerie under control (three small dogs, one cat, one turtle and two beta fish -- and I think we'll be raising butterflies again this spring to replace the sea monkeys that didn't make it).
I love to read when I'm not writing -- but I have to balance what I want to read with keeping up with my kids school reading. So, for their school I'm reading Plain Girl and D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths .. but for me I'm reading Signs & Wonders and Self Editing for Fiction Writers.
Thanks for letting me lurk -- I'll try to do as much participating as lurking. :)

I'd like to add a request for reviews for Isadora DayStar my new dark sci-fi, I hope that's okay here. Let me know and I'll arrange a free review copy for you. I've posted this blurb before but here it is again to refresh and give you a glimpse of what she's all about:
~~ When drug addled assassin Isadora DayStar finally snags a major interplanetary killing job, she thinks it will both support her habit and revise her status as the laughingstock of her profession. Instead, she embarks on a journey that brings her face to face with her tortured past. ~~
Thanks!
Okay, Rick, I'm a sucker to join any group that's crazy-mad about books. Thanks for the invite!I have a few giveaways up on GoodReads right now and you can view them (and my literary books) at http://www.AndrewBarger.com or on my blog http://AndrewBarger.blogspot.com
Thanks to Rick for the invite.I write non-fiction about military technology and history.
My reading preferences are primarily contemporary thrillers, fiction set during the Napoleonic wars, WWII and the cold war and non-fiction about the Napoleonic wars, post-WWII military technology and history, and warships/navies.
All that said, probably my favourite book series is Dune by Frank Herbert, which doesn't fit into any of the above.
I write reviews of most books that I read, and post them here, on my blog and on Amazon & Smashwords (if I got the book from Smashwords).

Military words of wisdom include "Never volunteer for anything," but Rick invited me, so that's different. I'm Tosh McIntosh, an aviator with five decades of cockpit experience and a writer with two decades of writing torture as described by a guy named Hemingway (paraphrased): "Just sit down at a typewriter (computer), open up a vein, and bleed."
In November, 2011, with the last of three fulls in what seemed to be permanent limbo with an agent, I elected to remove the manuscript from consideration and go indie with PILOT ERROR, the first novel in a series about a crash investigator who suspects an "accident" is in fact a case of airborne murder.
His refusal to accept the (all too) obvious evidence and tenacious quest for the truth put him, his family, and friends in the crosshairs of a special ops assassin.
I've been actively blogging for about 18 months to establish an online presence in support of my writing:
http://www.toshmcintosh.com/ and http://www.toshmcintosh.com/piloterror
I've had a couple of visitors, so it seems to be working well. =;-)
In non-fiction, I primarily read military history and concentrate on the war in the air. Twenty years as a fighter pilot and two combat tours probably explain that. I'm currently working on two projects, WORDS ON MY WING, tales from the cockpit, and FROM THE WRITER'S desk, about the bleeding part. Luckily, I've never had to combine the two.
In fiction, I'm primarily a mystery/thriller reader whose writing goal is to create good stories well told that entertain as they share with readers my lifelong passion for aviation. Currently, the second-in-series to PILOT ERROR is gathering dust as I struggle to solve the mysteries of online social networking. To use another military reference, I seem to be caught in a classic "Catch-22." To sell my novel I need for readers to discover it, but readers need to discover it for me to sell some. As William Bendix in THE LIFE OF RILEY used to say, "What a revoltin' development!"
I'm just curious: Was James Mason a pilot? =;-)
