Hi Gill,
Welcome to you and Mark! I'm exhausted just reading about all the activity on your 20-acre wildlife reserve. I'm sure you will find plenty of great books to read from the lists on Goodreads. Now, if you can find the time!

Gerry Huntman (gezza) Thanks for allowing me to join. My name is Gerry and I am a writer and small tradpub publisher. I mostly write speculative fiction (and publish), but I am certainly not restricted to those genres. My favorite author is Umberto Eco, for instance, and I am currently reading Emile Zola.

I publish on average 12 short stories a year, and I published a young teen novel, Guardian of the Sky Realms, in Oct 2010.

I live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife and 6 year old daughter.

welcome Gerry- I am nor looking at an edition of Germinal by Zola on the bookshelf above the computer- have you read that one?

message 2655: by Gerry (new)

Gerry Huntman (gezza) Hi all.

Rick, yes, a long time ago. I have read a fair number of his books, but decided I wanted to read a few again. I am reading Abbe Mouret's Transgression - only trouble is that this is the Victorian translation and it isn't as faithful to Zola as my earlier reading which is a 1950s translation. Nevertheless, it is an interesting book.

Slynkycat Hello all, pleased to be invited to this group - goodreads seems to be a great place to be inspired to read books you may not otherwise come by, and meet others with similar tastes. I looks forward to reading through this list and adding more books to my ever expanding to-read list :)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) M and G I think you live in an awesome countryside. You both have your hands full with livestock and what not. And I just have the one daughter and the cat and of course a husband. Makes me tired just reading what you do during the day.

FlowerFairy | 3 comments Hi everyone!! I would like to say I'm an avid reader but that would an understatement. For me, reading is like breathing - something I HAVE to do. :) I'm an eclectic reader and will read pretty much anything. I homeschool my two children who, it makes me happy to say, love books as much as I do. I'm on the board of directors for a non-profit exotic animal sanctuary (tigerstripes.org) and love spending time with our animals. Looking forward to meeting lots of new reading friends. :)

Chaz Young (chazayoung) | 18 comments Hello all, and thanks to Rick for the invitation! I am Chaz Young, a Y/A author, with two books published so far in a series of five, and the third one will be out soon. They are 'Travels to Fahdamin-Ra', 'Across the Savannah', and 'The Voyage North.' I started writing them because my kids who are brown complained that brown kids never had fun, fantasy book adventures like white kids such as Harry Potter and most other popular fantasy books. So, I started writing fantasy adventures about Celestine and Joel Bridges, who are brown kids that discover the world of Fahdamin-Ra, passed down to them from their African ancestors. When the kids are in Fahdamin-Ra, they have supernatural powers. Like me, the Bridges family lives in Bath, Maine, USA, when they are not visiting Fahdamin-Ra.

My publisher is going to soon re-release 'Travels to Fahdamin-Ra' as a soft cover, and as an e-book. I also do the artwork on the covers of my books, because I am an artist, too.

My website is http://www.chazyoung.com/home.html, and it will be new and improved in a week or so! My Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/ChaztheFahdamin is where the action is at, if you want to go by and 'like' me. I am glad to be here and get to know all of you!
