Fans of James Rollins, Dan Brown, Michael Crichton, Steve Berry, David Baldacci, and Raymond Khoury, listen up: James Barney is among us! A remarkable new master bursts upon the scene with The Genesis Key—a gripping debut thriller that combines a breathtaking Da Vinci Code-like historical/religious conspiracy with the science-gone-mad terror of Jurassic Park. A brilliant biologist finds herself at the center of a heart-racing international race to unlock the secret to life itself in James Barney’s electrifying, page-turning hunt for The Genesis Key.
Book Description
More than three decades ago, Dr. Kathleen Sainsbury's archaeologist parents were murdered at an ancient excavation site in Iraq. Now the gifted biologist stands on the brink of a miraculous breakthrough: the discovery of a gene that could extend a human life by hundreds of years. But at the moment of her greatest triumph, a mysterious phone call reveals a hidden truth that draws chaos and violence once again into Kathleen's world . . . and threatens to irreversibly alter the destiny of humankind.
For somewhere in the shadows, powerful unseen forces are watching . . . and waiting. Suddenly Kathleen is a target of covert government operatives as she races to uncover the mystery behind her parents' secret research and brutal deaths— a mystery locked in the human genome, in the sands of antiquity, and in the Book of Genesis. More than survival is at stake for Dr. Kathleen Sainsbury. The future of all humanity hangs in the balance . . . and the prize is the secret of life itself.

Hello and thanks Rick for the invite! My name is Megan and I am the author of Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress. I love memoirs and am in the process of catching up on the classics I never read-but wish I had. I love Dickens and will put off The Grapes of Wrath until I am late into my golden years.
Well, I'm glad to be back; thanks, Rick, for the invitation.I am a full-time worker with a large variety of jobs because I work at home. My main job at the moment seems to be a chauffeur for my 2 girls. My older has autism and will likely never drive, but does go to college and so needs constant transportation. I'm still waiting for my youngest to get her drivers' license. Oh, for that day!!
I live in No. California and am originally from Maryland and Virginia, although I was born in Lake Charles, LA. I love all book genres; there's always a good book in every one. I am not overly fond, however of horror, chick-lit, and religious fiction. I tend to get too stuck in my ways at times. My absolute favorite genre is mysteries of all kinds. My favorite series is the "In Death" Series by J.D. Robb.
I hope to be able to contribute.

Hi, everyone. Long time lurker, first time commenter. I'm a historical fantasy writer with a love for unique settings. I'm currently devouring all things Asian and have written a novel based on the Chinese classic "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." It's placed well in competitions and I'm shopping it out to agents and possibly independent publishers while starting a new series. ;D
I hope so! ;D However, "Romance" is misleading to a Western audience. I should probably try to stop using that. There's no love story, but lots of passionate self-sacrifice and courageous action.
Hello Everyone,Rick, thank you for inviting me to your site. I don't know why you chose THE JAMES MASON COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB theme, but I look forward to learning the details.
I retired from my "day job" in December, 2009. I'd been working on my first mystery novel since 200?? and after numerous editings followed by many more negative responses to query letters, I decided to self-publish before I was recalled (I've been reading too many articles about Wisconsin politics.)
Free to set my own schedule, I now read for several hours each morning. I purchased a Kindle recently and wonder how I've lived without it all these years.
Time to dig into all the wonderful discussions on this site!
Aloha,
Gail Baugniet

Thank you Rick for inviting me to be a part of this exciting group. I'm a literary fiction writer with a strong affinity for noir, magic realism, and anything that is character-driven. Malamud, Vonnegut, Roth, Brady Udall, George Saunders, and Haruki Murukami are some of my favorite authors.I am looking forward to meaningful chit-chat about books and the craft of fiction.
Cheers,
John Gorman

Hi Rick, I posted an intro comment before, but I just wanted to pop back in and say thanks for inviting me! Here's the intro again:
Hello new friends, I'm Naomi and I'm a writer from Australia. I'm also an avid reader from way back (and yes, a fan of classic films, especially the Katherine Hepburn / Spencer Tracy ones). I'll devour anything on paper from literary fiction and the classics to crime caper stories, mysteries, magical realism, action-adventure and a good old-fashioned comedy of manners.

Greetings and salutations all. I'm Vixenne, Lady Victorienne but just call me The Vixenne (or Vix). I'm one of those people who read more books in a week than most do all year. I freely admit to owning more books than clothes and somewhere in the midst of all that reading, I became a published author in two countries. I also have a habit of reading up to threee or more books at one time. I can't wait to chat with you all and gush effusive about our favorites reads. Maybe engage in a friendly debate or two, LOL.

Thanks Iain, and g'day to a fellow Aussie! It's tough working the time difference on these boards isn't it. I'm finding I'm a good 12 hours behind the conversation (not so different to real life at times, come to think of it)

J.R. LaGrecaI would like to thank Rick for inviting me to join this group. I am the author of five books who joined Good Reads a while ago, but never got a chance to update my page and get involved.I'm still working on my author profile and trying to figure things out, but I thought I would introduce myself in the meantime.
First, I would like to thank Rick for the invitation. I'm enamored with the acess the internet has allowed us fellow writers to come together and share in our joy and passion of literature. Thrilled to meet all other members here in the near future. Thank you!Best-----Michael

Thanks. I meant for the title to apply to a specific plotline but discovered that it applied to several areas of the novel ... just like life.

about the time difference:
That is the problem I encountered (in Hawaii) when I joined a blog challenge. Everyone had already made the daily rounds before I turned on my computer. I found that by checking the new blog posts late at night instead, I was sometimes the first reader. Sort of like being so far behind, you're ahead!

Welcome new members. You will love it here if you love books, if not stick around and you will. Ha!

Thanks for the welcome and well-wishes, Gail! :) I've had some very nice agent comments and was a finalist in a major contest, so I have hope. Keeping fingers crossed!
Hi, Thanks to Rick for the invitation. I live with Mark on a 20 acre smallholding in rural West Wales. The nearest to heaven I expect to get. It is situated in the mythical country of the Mabinogion, Welsh legends from the 11th century if I recall correctly, and one book was found at Parc Rhydderch which we can see across the valley from our place. Heaven and Hell of the legends were both situated in this area, and after 6 weeks being snowed in so no-one could reach us in a vehicle this winter, we know why! We have kept goats and cats all the 30+ years we have lived here. from 6 does to 50 and back to 3 now, plus a buck who lives with our Welsh cob who thinks she is his Mum! He trots like a cob and she eats tree leaves. Hmmm.
We have 6 cats now, one is a stray who adopted us, and another stray is now also asking for adoption. Over the years we have also kept sheep, a beef steer, pigs of various breeds and a couple of sheep dogs, one 'retired' the second a stray dropped out on the motorway.
We have made our smallholding wildlife friendly and varied in habitat, with woodland, marsh, a couple of small ponds for the ducks, hedgerows and banks between small paddocks. The RSPB officer thought we should open as a bird reserve having more than their reserves!
There's nowhere I'd rather be. However having had two librarian parents I do miss good libraries, and joined Bookmooch to exchange books. I got into journalling there and now run the journal site. It has given me a lot of pleasure, and I have been introduced to new authors (to me), such as Alexander McCall Smith. A BM friend suggested I join Goodreads a couple of years ago.
Rick asked me to talk about my wildlife reserve, so I hope I have not said too much. Gill
