Emily Hill | 45 comments I just this minute finished 'Horse Latitudes' by Goodreads author, Buford. Breezy, funny, showcases an edgy side of life among the 30-somethings. It could easily have been titled, Girl Gets Boy; Leaving Normal; infused with clever dialogue that leads up to a burst-of-laughter punchline.

Taneesha, you have a Master's in Psychology. I'm studing (on my own) why flash backs and how far back will they reach. I dabbled in flash backs a bit in my new novel "Whispers from the Mirror." Of course, I'm strictly studing it as a layman.

Tee loves Kyle Jacobson (teeloveskylejacobson) | 7 comments I am working on My Master's, I do not have it yet but I am working my butt off. Where can I get a copy of your book so I can read it. I love reading books that have Psychology in it. It is such a rewarding career to be in.

Tee loves Kyle Jacobson (teeloveskylejacobson) | 7 comments Hahahaha don't laugh I told my mum that she will NEVER go into a nursing home. My older sister is a dispatcher for the poilce department and I am going to be a psychologist and psychiatrist because I want to give my mum everything she has given me. Plus Psychology is such a rewarding career!

I started out in Criminal Justice and then went into Psych so be patient with your children because it will come to them. I probably gave my mum a full head of grey hair! hahahaha

Davis Aujourd'hui (goodreadscomdavis_aujourdhui) | 3 comments Thanks, Minnie. The books are hilarious, but contain nuggets of wisdom. They are designed to make people take a look at themselves; but, in so doing, to not take life so seriously. Life is meant to be about joy and I guarantee laughs from beginning to end to those who have an open mind.

message 2266: by Carol (new)

Carol Bridgestock (carolbridgestock) | 8 comments Carol and Bob Bridgestock were both born and lived in West Yorkshire until they relocated to the Isle of Wight in 2003. Between them they have 47years employment with the police, Carol being a member of the Civilian support staff and Bob being a Police Officer. They never had any inclinations to become authors, but others found their verbal stories thrilling which led them to put pen to paper.

Bob was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire in 1952. He left Grammar School at the age of 15, served an apprenticeship as a Butcher then spent two years in a dye works before joining the police force on the 28th January 1974. In 1981 he was awarded the much acclaimed ‘Denis Hoban Trophy’ for outstanding detective work. On retirement he received a Certificate of Loyal Service from West Yorkshire Police in appreciation and recognition of 30years ‘Loyal and Devoted Service to the Community’. As a career detective he worked in the CID at every rank. For over half of his service he was a senior detective, retiring at the rank of Detective Superintendent. As a Senior Investigative Officer (SIO) in charge of homicide cases he took command of some twenty-six murder investigations, twenty- three major incidents including shootings and attempted murders and over fifty suspicious deaths and numerous sexual assaults, some of which were extremely high profile in his last three years alone. He received numerous commendations from high court judges and chief constables who credit him with personal commitment and professionalism, expertise and diligence as well as competence with skilful leadership in sensitive, complex high profile cases with the subsequent presentation of compelling evidence. He was a Force Hostage Negotiator and was also commended for his work into the investigation of a protracted, high profile investigation of police corruption in another police force.

Carol was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1961. She left Grammar School at the age of 16 and went on to study hairdressing at college. At the age of twenty she was running her own successful salon as well as teaching at the college. In 1988 Carol commenced working for the Police as a member of the support staff in the administration department. As a supervisor she received a Chief Constable’s commendation for outstanding work for her determination and drive creating a poster competition for an Autumn Fall Crime Initiative involving local schools.

She always knew Bob could tell a good story because of the experiences he had had in his life but her nagging fell on deaf ears until in 2008 when out of the blue he enrolled them on a college course to 'Write Your First Novel’. Carol is the Chairperson of Wight Fair Writers' Circle which developed from that course and involves the community in writing competitions for all ages.

Their first novel, Deadly Focus, was published in 2009 and the next book in the series 'Consequences' is expected to arrive in the summer of 2011. Now the authors are full time writers it is anticipated that two further additions to the series will be published during 2011.

William (darthindurate) | 5 comments Thanks to Rick for the invite. I have long been a lover of books and literature, and I am sure I'll find some interesting things to discuss here.
I am a high school French teacher in Nova Scotia with a beautiful wife and two very active (both good & bad, LOL)kids.
While I will read just about anything, I am especially fond of historical fiction, supernatural thrillers and Si-fi. Some of my favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael Connelly, Stephen Hunter, and Philip Kerr. I am also a big fan of the Star Wars franchise.

Walter Greatshell | 1 comments Hi, Rick--thanks for the invite to your group. How can I resist a book club named after James Mason? The guy was both Humbert Humbert and Captain Nemo, for heaven's sake!

Greetings everyone. Pleased to meet you. I'm the author of the psychothriller novel MAD SKILLS, as well as the XOMBIES trilogy, which recently wrapped up with XOMBIES: APOCALYPSO. Publishers Weekly has called my work "the literary equivalent of a syringe full of adrenaline." I enjoy any kind of book, fiction or nonfiction, as long as the writing is good. Most recently I've been reading BOSWELL'S LONDON JOURNAL, which is a fun snapshot of life in 1762. A few of my favorite books are: DINO, by Nick Tosches; THE SELECTED LETTERS OF JACK KEROUAC, edited by Ann Charters; THE MAKING OF STAR WARS, by J.W. Rinzler; THE DOG OF THE SOUTH, by Charles Portis; THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, by Kazuo Ishiguro; DELIVERANCE, by James Dickey; LOLITA, by Vladimir Nabokov--I could go on and on. Anyway, the only thing I love more than reading is people who read, so it's a pleasure to be here.

S.A. (suerule) | 2 comments Hi everyone, and thanks to Rick for inviting me to join what looks like a lively group. I think my pal "Timothy" has already been stirring things up here!

I'm proud to be an independent author. The first two books in my fantasy series Shaihen Heritage Cloak of Magic and Staff of Power were published with Authors On Line and the third, Spirit of Shehaios, is poised to go - just doing the final edit and proofing.

I strayed from the Authors on line fold for a brief and unsatisfactory affair with a "traditional" publisher, Pegasus Elliott. It was not an experience I recommend, it left me somewhat the poorer and very frustrated.

No-one has any silver bullet answers to the current woeful state of the publishing and book-selling industry, but at least at Authors on Line there are some people engaged in thinking about the problem rather than sniping from the sidelines and jealously trying to protect their own patch of sand (so they can keep their heads well buried in it, I assume). I firmly believe that only the power of democratic collaboration can save any world. (I did mention the Shaihen Heritage series, didn't I....visit the Fair Land, Home of the Free, at http://www.shehaios.co.uk )

The books I like to read are on the lines of Twilight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the paranormal, and science fiction. Victoria Strauss (victoriastrauss) | 1 comments Hi, everyone,

I'm Victoria Strauss, author of the "Stone" duology ("The Arm of the Stone" and "The Garden of the Stone") and other books listed here on Goodreads. I write for both adults and teens.

Thanks to Rick for the invitation. I'm a passionate reader, and I'm looking forward to participating here.

Currently reading: "After the Workshop" by John McNally, a satirical book about a failed writer. Kind of painful reading for a fellow writer, but also very funny.

Michelle Stie (michellestie-buckles) | 16 comments Hello all! Thanks to Rick for his kind invitation to join the group. I'm a high school English teacher who got into the business because I like books: reading them, discussing them, collecting, buying and trading them. I'll read almost anything, although I have a particular fondness for contemporary literary fiction and authors like Wally Lamb, Michael Chabon, Richard Russo, and Margaret Atwood. I'm always up for a good mystery as well. I'm looking forward to participating in the James Mason community.

message 2286: by Renea (new)

Renea Winchester (reneawinchester) Thank you Rick for the invitation. My nonfiction book titled "In The Garden With Billy: Lessons About Life, Love & Tomatoes," is a book about relationships and giving others a precious gift; that of your time.
The Mayor of Roswell Georgia calls Billy Albertson, "the last farmer." He operates a roadside vegetable stand and while I had very little experience growing vegetables, when Billy reached out to shake my hand, he made me realize that something was missing in my life.
I now garden with Billy three days a week, and am passionate about teaching others how to "see people." The world is full of lonely people, many of whom are crying out for a kind word. Every one of us has the power to change that, just by saying, "Hello, how are you?"
I am doing that today, reaching out to you by way of introduction. I write about relationships because in my heart I believe that everyone has a story and everyone matters! BUT, the most important thing to know about me is that I am a reader. Libraries are my frist love as there were no bookstores in the small town where I grew up. Books were my only means of "transport" from my small town into the world that awaited. To me, there is nothing like the feel and smell of a book!

I have created a FB page titled In the Garden With Billy where you can see pics of the farm and learn more about what is going on.

I also have a copy of the book available on the "giveaway" page: one for US readers, one for UK readers. In The Garden With Billy: Lessons About Life, Love & Tomatoes is available in many countries. Visit my blog at http://blogthefarm.wordpress.com to learn more, or my website at www.reneawinchester.com.

I look forward to meeting you! And Rick, thank you again. You are kind to welcome me into this family of readers.

Banafsheh Serov (loveagoodread) | 1 comments Hi everyone. My name is Banafsheh Serov. I live in Sydney, Australia. And I'm a book-a-holic! Phew I'm glad I got that off my chest. Now down to the nitty gritty.
My family runs two bookstores (at one stage we owned 5). Most the books I review, with the exception of those chosen by my bookgroup, are samples handed to me by reps.
I'm also an author. Under a starless Sky was published in 2008 and Jasmine Petals in 2009. I'm currently finishing final editing for my latest book, Blood Red Sky -my publisher generally veto my titles and pick their own- which I'm terribly excited about.
Written words are my passion. There is nothing more satisfying to me than a strand of beautifully woven words. Happy reading. Bon
