George King (kinggeorge) | 31 comments Thanks to Rick for inviting me to join the group--so many compelling and provocative topics to consider!

I taught English literature for 32 years in Maryland, and my wife and I currently live in Sarasota, FL, and summer on Lake Cobbosseecontee in Maine. I'm a Goodreads author, and my novels reflect several genres and diverse subject matter. The first, THE YOUNG BALBOAS, is a a coming-of-age epic set in the lush Panamanian jungle of the 1950's. SIXTY IN SARASOTA and SEXY IN SARASOTA are part of a comedy/mystery series highlighting the fabulous Sun Cast of Florida. My latest, THE RUPTURE, is a science fiction satire of the Rapture--the protagonist is an extraterrestrial whose weapons include stand-up comedy and a fleet of enormous UFO's.

I love the idea of belonging to a discussion group and only having to travel as far as my PC. Addicted to reading from as far back as I can remember, is it any wonder that when it came to a career I opted for English teacher. In my spare time I write. My website is: http://annmasseyauthor.net/

Ah yes, revisionism has always been a problem as has changing standards but one has to start somewhere. Armed with critical thinking and an ethnocentric awareness one can filter the message and hear the story. Just don't set it in concrete.

Maxine (caffeine_chapters) Hi, I'm Maxine. I live on the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia. I'm one of the lucky ones who was not affected by the floods. I'm ploughing through the 1001 books you must read before you die, along with my general reads. I love horror, sci and the classics but some books have surprised me like Memoirs of a Geisha. I run a book club called Caffeine and Chapters and I blog about what I'm reading at: http://caffeineandchapters.blogspot.com/
I look forward to joining in your group discussions :)

message 1837: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbarasc) | 2 comments Hello! I'm new to this group, and it seems as though you have a lot of very diverse and interesting discussions going on here, so I'm looking forward to participating!!

Thank you, Rick, for inviting me to join this great group!!

My name is Barbara and I live in NY, NY. I'm a native New Yorker, believe it or not, and although I've traveled quite extensively and I'm very aware of the fact that the world does not come to an end at the Hudson River, I do love it here. I lived in San Francisco for three years (I moved there for a job) and it really was a great experience. The entire area of Northern California is absolutely magnificent and I'm happy to have had a chance to live there for a few years.

Like so many others, I've been out of work for a while. I spent over 20 years in the magazine business (specifically music magazines -- Guitar Magazine, Guitar Player, Metal Edge, Relix) but as you all probably know, magazines have not been doing very well. Right now I'm helping a friend of mine to develop The National Guitar Museum, and it's a fantastic project but it may be a long while before we can actually make a living from it, so I've also been trying to get some part time and/or freelance work in the meantime.

I love to read, and I think Goodreads is just a fantastic site. I often enter the First Reads contests, and through First Reads I've had an opportunity to read some books and find new authors that I may have never found on my own. I love to read fiction of all sorts (with the exception of scary, creepy thrillers) and I also enjoy a lot of non-fiction including biographies, memoirs, and history.

In addition to reading and trying to earn somewhat of a living, I am an abstract expressionist painter, and I also love going to art exhibitions. I've been referred to as an "art head" which I take as a compliment.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!!!

Thanks for letting me share!!!

Dawn Tevy (angelswarriors) | 10 comments Hi Everyone,

Thank you Rick for letting me be part of this wonderful group.

I am a new writer who is in the final edits of my book, which will be the first in a series of 9 to 13. As a new writer I am doing many things differently than has ever been done. One of the things I am doing is including the 'fans' in my entire process and in doing so I hope to encourage others to pursue their own passion/dreams.

In an effort to promote everything I am doing I have started a radio show. Next Tuesday the 25th at 6pm PST Lou Aronica will be joining us on www.blogtalkradio.com/angelsandwarriors.

If you are unfamiliar with Lou he is a publisher, editor, and a New York Times Bestselling Author. He is also the man who discovered George Lucas, launching the phenomenon known world wide as Star Wars. I am very proud to call Lou my personal editor and together we are doing great things with my book.

Lou has recently released a new fictional novel titled 'blue'. We will be discussing his new book and a few others he's worked next Tuesday.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a personalized/autographed copy of 'blue' visit http://angelsandwarriors.org/Books.asp

The following Tuesday 1 February we will have Margaret Weis on. She is also a New York Times Bestselling Author best known for the DragonLance series, but she has left that world behind creating a new one that will launch this May.

So if you love books and enjoy meeting authors please follow us.

Live your passion and change the world,

Dawn Tevy

Hi Suzy! I just read a zombie book myself, but it was historical which fits in with my preferences. If you think you would like a historical zombie novel that centers on a vampire Shakespeare, try
Shakespeare Undeadby Lori Handeland. I thought it was a fun read.

Jerry Hanel Hello. My name is Jerry Hanel. Yes I'm an author (Death Has a Name), but I also love to read. I have five different books on the "Being Read" pile, not including those on the TBR pile. =)

If anyone has any suggestions for great titles, I enjoy paranormal mysteries and general thrillers (not all that into horror, despite how people confuse Paranormal with Horror).

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Welcome, new members!

I write sweet and sensual romance. Today and next Friday until 8 pm EST I'm offering authors the opportunity to promote their blogs and books on my fan page so we can support each other. Starting in February, you'll be able to do it every third Friday.

You don't have to write romance to participate. In fact, you don't have to be a writer. Artists, musicians, freelance editors--post your links, promotions, WIPs you have coming up.

Please read the rules before posting. Thanks, and I hope to see you there!

I'm a big fan of science fiction. More recently I've gotten into zombies. And I dabble in supernatural a little. Then of course: I like good general fiction.
