I loved getting this invitation, for a number of reasons. Thank you Rick!!I have just finished reading a rare book - one that I wanted to start reading right over when I finished it. Considering I am the kind of reader who often abandons books around page 40 it's a big occasion! I have also started another that's about one-fifth of the size, which promises to be a 'keeper'.
I read a lot because it's part of my job - I am an author, and I need to see what the competition is doing!
Visitors to my blog can leave comments... I often write about reading and writing, and I have just hosted my first guest author. http://rosannedingli.blogspot.com
Hi everyone. Thanks so much for the invitation. I'm 18 years old, an avid reader and ambitious writer. Hopefully someday I'll finish writing that book and see it in print! My most favorite genres of fiction are fantasy (epic/urban), paranormal romance, historical romance and a few classics. I'm not really a non-fiction type of person, although a few autobiographies have grabbed me in the past. But I'll read anything on Greek mythology, Roman history and THE TUDORS (not only the TV show).

Welcome to the group, Rosanne. Now we have ANOTHER group in common. :-) I just checked out your blog, didn't know why I haven't before, and the entry from your guest author was very interesting. Your comments on threads are always informative.
Hello, I'm Eugenia. I'm from Seattle and I love to read and I love James Mason so this just sort of fell together for me. I've been away from Goodreads for awhile, but I'm excited about getting new recommendations for good reads. I love reading the classics, romance, mystery and noir but I'm up for anything. I also adore classic movies that's why I love James Mason, personal favorite of his roles was in North by Northwest quite an accomplishment to almost steal a movie from Cary Grant.

Hello, Eugenia! Welcome to the group. I also enjoy reading mystery and romance novels, and I write AA and IR romance.
Eugenia, I love mystery and noir, too. Though I agree with the quality of his classic performance in NBN, check out his gentlemanly performance in the miniseries Salem's Lot. Who needs Caesar when you can have Straker?!?

Hi all. I got an invitation to the group a few weeks ago and never one to do today what can be postponed until tomorrow I finally joined today. I live in Minnesota, I like to read and write (along with some other stuff) and I look forward to getting to know at least a few of the other 2,878 members here.
Hello all. Thank you for the invitation to join, Rick.I am delighted to see so many that enjoy reading so much. It is rare in our video-craving society to find so many that value a good read.
I will try to add to discussions where I can, but I have a lot on my plate, so I won't be able to post as much as I would like.
By way of introduction, I read as much as I can and I enjoy many different genres. I must admit that I haven't taken the time to put all of the books that I've read in my goodreads profile yet, but it's on my to-do list.
My life has been a whirlwind of activity for the past four months. I officially became a published author early last month with the release of my first published work, A Beacon of Hope. The publisher has kept me quite busy promoting not only Beacon but The Sixth World of Men series as a whole. It's been fun, because I love to talk about the series, but it has also cut into both my reading and my writing time. Both are precious to me as I'm sure that they are to you.
It's good to be a member here and I hope to have some interesting discussions with the group here about the wonderful pastime of reading.
Hi all. I want to thank Rick for inviting me to join. I was a member and I left the group and you invited me back into the group. Thank you.

Hello, everyone. My name is Susan, and I am pleased to be a member of this group. I belong to a book club, and I take two classes each semester in the Institute for Adult Learning at my local community college. One course is in Contemporary Literature, and we read and discuss five books a semester on a theme chosen by the teacher. The other course is translations of French literature, in which we also read and discuss. I read a lot of books on my own, also. Right now I have become interested in reading novels and some nonfiction on people confronting the wilderness and their reaction to it. I stumbled upon this subject when I noticed that several books I enjoyed were on this topic, and so I decided to pursue it. I belong to the 50 Books a Year group, but I have read over 70 this year (so far, but I don't have too much time left).

Hi folks! My name is Stefanie (I also respond to the nickname Stevie), and I'm new to the group - though not to goodreads. Thanks to Rick for inviting me!I'm a reading teacher from New Jersey, and I have a love of all genres of books. Left to my own devices, I tend to gravitate toward nonfiction, historical fiction, and fantasy. I also have a HUGE soft spot for Arthurian tales.
I look forward to enjoying some discussions with this group, especially as I barrel into another 50 book challenge in 2011... there should be plenty to discuss.
Hi!My name is Dennis. For most of my life since age 9, I have been an avid reader. Since being lucky enough to get a conventional publishing of my first SF novel,'The Understanding' aka 'The Jump-Clones' I have been somewhat busy with that and posting poetry on Goodreads and other sites, so my reading has fallen off a little lately. I am now looking to get back into reading once our winter starts in about May.
I self published two books as memoirs of my 25 years as a NZ policeman, which sold well in NZ, but I never put them off shore at all.
Now and then I will publish chapters from 'Constable' and 'Sergeant' on this site if someone can give me the correct thread to post on.
I am about to start on the sequel to 'The Understanding' but I am looking forward to being involved here as well....can only be helpful and rewarding to be among such great company.....
I am a great fan of some of the earlier SF authors having had 'TU' compared favourably with some of Aldous Huxley's and John Wyndham's works, but am now interested in seeing how the contemporary writers have taken up the cudgels. Thanks Rick for your invite.
Hello! My name's Rhea and I'm going to college for biochemistry right now, but since it's winter break I have plenty of time to spend on reading. I'm looking forward to reading the posts in the various threads.
Hi, my name is Jimmy. I'm a retired high school English teacher. My claim to fame as a teacher was a philosophy class and a writing poetry class. Teaching philosophy in high school is not done often, and I am so proud of my successes in managing that class for so many years. I wish it could be done everywhere, but it takes a supportive administration and community to allow controversial topics into a high school classroom. The kids loved it. If we were still in class, they would be shocked at the level of political and religious discussion that goes on in the world today. I taught teenagers how to do much better than that. I also spent a year in Vietnam after college in 1970 training Vietnamese soldiers as part of a program called Vietnamization. Now I am writing my memoirs about that war and about my teaching experiences.

Hi,This is Kate here. I'm a writer and editor but of technical material rather than fiction. For the past 16 years I've worked at a large software company in the Seattle area. (You figure it out.) I will be retiring early in 2011.
I do book binding and repair along with other paper arts and run a non-profit (Creative Art for Everyone). CAFE provides art lessons and materials to various disenfranchised members of society. We focus primarily on adults but will hold classes for children from time to time. The joy is watching someone who comes in and tells you they have no talent produce something he/she is proud of. It builds an incredible amount of confidence in people and proves that art really can change lives.
I'm looking forward to reading lots of the posts already here and adding my often unique perspective to the discussion.
Rick, thanks for getting me here.

Hi there. I'm Koko. Thanks, Rick, for the invitation. I am an avid audiobook listener. I still do print from time to time (via Kindle), but my busy lifestyle lends more to listening rather than reading with my eyes. Mostly interested in suspense, mystery, some paranormal and scifi, and african american fiction. Look forward to interacting with all of you.
Hi I am Susie avid reader, librarian,& classic movie freak.I have rediscovered classic books thanks to audiobooks so have finally read quite a few this last year and plan on reading many more. I am going through an Edith Wharton kick right now.Huge fan of Agatha Christie books & movies.I pretty much read all genres' my least favorite being romance and I'm a bigger fan of fantasy than Sci-Fi and wish book shops libraries and such would seperate them into to two different categories (I have at my library)so I don't have to wade through sci-fi to find fantasy. If you look at my books you'll see I read a little of everything!

Hello to all my fellow James Mason members,Born in Jacksonville, Florida where I still resides, I'm Nate Spears a 29 year old inspirational poetry writer with a vision to change the world through my writings.
I began writing short stories that amazed my elementary school teachers when I was only 7. However, a few years later football stole me away from writing, and this second passion followed me throughout high school and onto college, where I majored in elementary education at Edward Waters College.
I currently work as a registry specialist for the University of Florida Jacksonville healthcare team.
While happy with my work, I have a growing concern about the world around me, especially the negativity that seems to be thrust at us from every direction.
I'm especially concerned about the effects this may have on the young people of the world, being exposed to such streams of negative thoughts and images daily in the media. I develpoed a desire to make a difference. This desire inspired me to pick up the pen again in the winter of 2008.
The result became Inspiration 2 Smile, a collection of poetry that I hopes will inspire others to find joy, even in life's most challenging situations.
The book is avaliable at:
