Annette Hart | 19 comments Hi,
My name is Annette and I have just joined this group - I like anything that encourages an eclectic mix of reading/listening/viewing material.
As well as being a reader I am an author and have just had my second book published. So far I am writing fantasy adventure for older children/YA but I do intend to start writing for adults, possibly in other genres.
Blood and Allegiance
Escape and Betrayal - The Second Book of Athlandia

I won Reece's book The Insider in a Goodreads giveaway. It was a wonderful, legal thriller. Even if you don't read "legal thrillers" you should read this one because it's a first rate thriller. Not cliched, very realistic, believable situations. Can't wait for the next book.

Tricia Douglas (teachgiftedkids) Now that I'm retired (30 years teaching school) I'm going to be able to catch up on my mile-high stack of books. I enjoy hearing what others are reading and get lots of my ideas from these groups. My name is Tricia and I live outside of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley. Hope to be a continuing and frequent member of this group. Thanks, Rick.

Neve Maslakovic (nevemaslakovic) Hi everyone -- I've been meaning to stop by and introduce myself. My name is Neve Maslakovic (pronounced "Nehv Mah-slah-koh-vich") and my first novel will be published in February 2011 by AmazonEncore. "Regarding Ducks and Universes" is the tale of a culinary writer, his alter ego, and a wayward rubber duck.

I found out about this group when Rick befriended me (Thanks, Rick!) and this looks like a great place to hang out ( Jerome K Jerome doesn't get mentioned on many forums!) I've been enjoying reading everyone's comments. Sadly, carpal tunnel prevents me from posting too often (must save hands for novel I'm currently working on) but I'll be dropping by as much as I can.

John Mabry (apocryphile) | 3 comments Hi, friends! My name is John and I just found out about goodreads about a month ago when my friend Mickey introduced me. What a great site! I'm really enjoying meeting people here and getting lots of good book recommendations. I am a new author, having just published my first novel THE KINGDOM--you can download it free from www.apocryphile.org/kingdom/ or check it out here on the goodreads site. It's definitely in the Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer zone, horror/adventure/comedy. Thanks to Rick for tapping me on the shoulder. I'll definitely be posting (and reading, natch).

John

Alanna Hi everyone!

Thanks for the invite, Rick. I'm 23 years old and from Saskatoon, Sk (Canada). I'm a university student working through an English degree, so reading and discussing books are my favorite things to do.

I mostly read fiction but I'm also a big fan of memoirs, especially dealing with different mental illnesses. I loathe Stephenie Meyer, Nicholas Sparks, and anything classified as a romance novel but I won't hold it against you if you love them, haha.

I look forward to reading going through the various discussions taking place and seeing what you all have to say!

Andre Ouellette Hi Everyone! Thanks for the invite Rick. Have enjoyed reading all my life, just too many damn good books out there. Life is too short to enjoy them all, but I'm having a great time plugging away. Got the Kindle 2 when it came out, but have been spending a lot of time lately listening to audio books...enjoy reading and listening, but there's something special about listening to a talented narrator. Between Kindle and audio, presently reading Terry Brooks' Bearers of the Black Staff, Jonathan Franzen's Freedom, Dean Koontz's Lightning, and Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. That explains why it takes me so long to finish a book! :-)

Robert Thornhill | 8 comments Hi Mystery Readers,
I, too, would like to thank Rick for the invitation to join your group.
My name is Robert Thornhill and I am a new author. I have two mystery/comedy novels being published with Tate Publishing and a third being edited as we speak.
I have also written a 7 volume set of childrens books.
You can see all of them on my website, http://www.BooksByBob.com.
I have advance copies of both books, Lady Justice Takes A C.R.A.P. and Lady Justice And The Lost Tapes, currently on the Goodreads Book Giveaway Program, that runs through December 22nd.
These are mystery/comedy novels. They are written in the same style as Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, the difference being that all my characters are senior citizens.
I look forward to being a part of your group.
Bob t.

KOMET | 870 comments Thanks Rick for extending me an invitation to join this group. I look forward to taking part in some of the discussions here.

I'm KOMET. I'm an economist by profession and am fairly new to Goodreads. Anyone in this group is welcome to look at my library, which largely reflects at least 95% of the books I have in my apartment.

I'm a fairly eclectic reader with special interests in historical fiction, aviation, science fiction/fantasy, Latin American fiction, the World Wars, the Napoleonic and Regency Eras, many of the Western classics, art, auto/biography, and memoirs.

I leave you now with one of my all-time favorite novels from Winston Graham --- as well 3 novels by Gore Vidal (one of my favorite writers, whose autograph I cherish).

Ross Poldark (Poldark, #1) by Winston Graham

Burr by Gore Vidal

Lincoln by Gore Vidal

Empire A Novel by Gore Vidal

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. Thanks for the invite, Rick! I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone.

I love to read, and I also love to write. I write romantic fiction. My debut release is entitled The Arrangement and is still on my publisher's bestseller list since its release on November 12th.

During the month of December I'm blogging about the e-book industry, so I'd love for you to stop by my website: http://delaneydiamond. My last post before Christmas will be a comparison of e-readers on the market.

Reece, I've added your book to my TBR shelf because outside of romance, I also enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers. Can't wait to sink my teeth into it!

Delaney Diamond

Dana (piyo) | 2 comments Janet wrote: "Glad to hear you like books, and are here. Can you tell me though, what is steampunk?"

No problem, Janet. I tend to get that question every time I mention that I'm a fan of steampunk. Seems that people know what it is, only they aren't familiar with the term.

Steampunk is a genre of science fiction/fantasy that is usually set in the 19th century. The "steam" in steampunk is referring to steam-powered machines. Period pieces with technology. Think, The Time Machince by H.G. Wells.

message 1539: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Goldin (stephengoldin) | 36 comments Basically, it's a throwback to an era of great optimism, when people believed science could solve all our problems. Think Wells and Verne.

message 1540: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Goldin (stephengoldin) | 36 comments I'm with you, Brodie. William Peter Blatty wrote a funny, little-known, and almost unfindable book called I, Billy Shakespeare, in which Shakespeare's ghost comes back to the present day and dictates into a tape recorder, trying to dispute all the people who said he didn't write his own plays. At one point he says, "I wasn't writing great literature. I was writing, 'Come see the king with the "charmed life" battle the Incredible Creeping Forest.'"

"Great Literature" is for professors to argue over and write theses about. I try to write books people will want to read. That a hard enough goal to attain.

message 1541: by Alex (new)

Alex | 2 comments It's cool what you're doing, Rick. I intend to be an avid contributor to the discussions. I'm a teacher, reader and writer. My novel The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed is out there in numerous forms. I'm currently reading Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler, The Rules of Engagement by Anita Brookner and Last Exit in New Jersey by C.E. Grundler. In the non flesh and blood category, the things I like best are books, wine and music (Bach to Byrne).

I like to think so, and I've got a whole lot of titles with my byline. Mostly science fiction and fantasy. Nor much erotica, though I have a few sex scenes here and there. I did write for and edit a porn newspaper in my younger days, but not under my own name.

Hi everyone. I'm a notorious shut-in and 70's snob with a serious dislike for sunlight, Miss America, and Christmas, happily married with three kids, livin' in the past, and sleepin' with the TV on. Hold all calls...

All cars are junk - I hate them - to hell with automobiles. To hell with insurance. To hell with Henry Ford. I am not mechanically inclined. Nor am I "handy," or "improvisational," or "clever." I can barely navigate my way out of a toll booth. If only I had paid attention to my Dad at all of those Saturday "let's learn about the wonders of the four-stroke engine" bonding sessions when I was a teenager. If he had been telling me how Link Wray got that dirty fuzz tone guitar effect in his seminal 1958 instrumental classic, "Rumble," I would have listened.
