Thank you, Rick, for inviting me to this group. I am the author of "A Quiet Storm" and "The View from Here." I'm also a science writer at City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment center here in Southern California.I love all types of books and appreciate readers who love all types of books. If you cornered me, though, and I had to answer, I'd say Stephen King and Dennis Lehane are my favorite writers.
Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hello everyone! Is this a back door entry into the Masons? ;-)Thank you Rick for the invite. After reading through the pedigree of the members here, I am both humbled and honoured to be asked to join.
Currently reading Bill Bryson's EXCELLENT Made in America and Camille Paglia's equally excellent Sexual Personnae.
Currently writing poetry (two little poems have just been accepted for publication somewhere on the web and a sonnet was nominated by the Goodreads poetry judges for poem of the month earlier this year); and an economics course called "Economics Demystified" that has been accepted by my local continuing education program for next year.
I've been blogging for a couple of years @ egajd.blogspot.com for my verbal musings and
egajdbooks.blogspot.com for my book reading related writing.
I am looking forward to reading, and contributing to, this group's diverse verbal perambulations.

Thank you, Rick, for the invite. I've actually been a member for about a month now, but this is the first chance I've had to get involved. Lessee. John Beachem is an author of fantasy, sci-fi, and the occasional movie critique. He is one of those irritating people who insists on referring to himself in the third person, because he is working under the mistaken impression that it makes him sound more intelligent. He reads a great deal of fiction, considers reading a great deal of non-fiction, and carefully schedules time in which to procrastinate in his writing. He is pleased to be here and to meet all of you fine people.

Thanks for the invite! I have loved to read since I figured out that letters made words. In first grade, my parents introduced me to the Wonderous World of the Public Library and I thought it was the most amazing place on earth. I still do! I will read just about anything and everything but my prefered genre is mystery/thrillers.

Thank you for the invitation. I am a vivacious reader. I own my own online business and I review books for Smexybooks. Though I review mostly of UF and PNR; I read every genre. Looking forward to meeting and talking with everyone.
Thanks for the invite, Rick! I like to read SF&F, mysteries, thrillers, and non-fiction. I also write SF&F. My latest release is The Salbine Sisters.
Hi I'm Brian and have a wide range of reading interests. I like both fiction and non-fiction, literature and some trashy novels. I just finished Ape House (Gueren) and have jumped into The Piano Teacher by Lee. You can see a more complete reading list at my blog at:http://bevd.edublogs.org/
I am looking forward to meeting more readers through this group.

Big welcome to all the newcomers - I can't believe how fast this group is growing, I just wish I had more time to spend here as everyone sounds so interesting :)
Newbie too -- from Brisbane, Australia -- and since I've just had a SwampChange and moved to the wetlands shoreline of Moreton Bay at Beachmere (blog) I'm in a novel sync. I read what I like especially satire and humour so I like the other centuries...and criem fiction. I've also written satire , short plays, journalism and the like (blog) and am now trying to engineer a reboot in that regard.
Rick & everyone else, ciao -- as James Mason would've put it. I'm glad to be here, & my reviews & more are available around the site. My books are here too, & the best source for information is www.johndomini.com. Happy Thanksgiving.
Hi, my name is Douglas E. Richards. Thanks to Rick for the invite. You can learn more about me at www.douglaserichards.com. Although I'm a bit of a dinosaur and not entirely sure how to work in a social media world, I'm trying to increase my Facebook presence, so please feel free to friend me at Douglas E. Richards Author.I'm the author of an action-packed sci-fi series that seems to be getting good marks from kids and adults alike. It's called The Prometheus Project, and it is hard science fiction (in the tradition of Asimov or Clarke). It has been praised in such diverse publications as Asimov's Science Fiction magazine, Teaching K-8 magazine, Kirkus, and School Library Journal as well as being listed as recommended literature by the California Department of Education. Earlier this year, in recognition of my work, I was selected to be a "special guest" at San Diego Comic-Con International along with Ray Bradbury, Stan Lee, and Rick Riordan (which was both awesome and surreal, I can assure you).
I'll be joining in the sci-fi discussions, but it may be a month or so before I can come up for air and do so. My newest novel, The Devil's Sword, was just launched, and I've never been busier. I mean crazy busy. This book isn't part of my sci-fi series. Basically it is a mainstream, contemporary thriller for kids and adults set against the unique and fascinating backdrop of the sport of fencing. My son took up the sport four years ago, and I became immersed in it. I had no idea how interesting it was, and I wanted to give everyone a taste of this amazing world. In the book, three teen fencers at a tournament at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada cross paths with (and must stop) two brilliant arms dealers trying to steal the worlds's most advanced weapon (and their team of mercenaries, of course). Early reviews have been very encouraging, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it will do well and be well received.
Anyway, thanks again to Rick, and congratulations to him on the success of this group.
Doug

Hi all! Rick, thanks so much for the invitation. I shall enjoy getting to know the list and the folks who spend time here. I live in Texas, am "of a certain age", and love books. I read mostly fiction and have been heavily into audiobooks for the last 3 years. Listening to books that I read and loved a long time ago is a special treat because I hear things I missed in the first reading.
I just finished listening to T.H.White's "The Sword in the Stone", and have moved on to Michael Connelly's latest: "The Reversal".
Regards,
Linda J

What an extraordinary way to co-mingle. Thanks, Rick, for the invite.I'm a fiction writer, so what time I have left after working to pay the bills is spent writing and researching, the latter of which is the reason I read mostly nonfiction. I've just released Waterfall Dance, an efficient but ambitious novel that explores the human/animal relationship, a five year undertaking.
When I began writing many years ago, I wanted to change the world. Now I'm happy to simply provoke a reader into thinking about something he/she's never thought about.
PS: I didnt change the world. It changed me.

Hello! My name is Margaret. I am from BC Canada. I love to read and have been so pleased since joining goodreads. The wonderful people I have met here and the encouragement I have gotten to read is awesome! I am a stay home Mom at the moment so finding time to read (and be on line here) can be challenging but my kids love books as well so they love to add the stories that have been read to them also.
My name is Rebecca Rasmussen and I'm the author of the novel The Bird Sisters, forthcoming from Crown/Random House on April 12th. Thank you for the lovely invitation to join your group! I am also a big reader, runner, momma -- wow, the list could really go on :)

Thank you for the invitation. My name is Lee and have somewhat recently become an avid reader. After a back injury I returned to school and rediscovered the love of reading. I now work as a reference librarian at a public library and read every chance I get.
Welcome Lee, Rebecca, and Margaret! I'm new here myself and look forward to getting to know the group.Linda J

Thank you both Rick and Linda.
Waking up was the worst part of the day. A moment of blankness followed by dulled awareness: the parched tongue and the sirocco breath rattling the throat; the inevitable tap-tap on the temples; the screwed up dampness of the sheets; the remembrance that the bed was empty; the life empty. She wasn’t there this morning either.I got it, W.H.! Love your entry.
Big Welcome to
Rachel, Margaret, Rebecca, Andrew, all the others I've missed in the past month.
I write fiction, commercial fiction, paranormal, and vampire stories.
I live in Chicago, IL USA and retired. Once in a while I make entries to my blog here as Minnie Estelle.
Writing and self-publishing hasn't been to good to me in the past few months. Hope to get past this bump in the road next year.
Namaste to all.
Hi everyone. My name's Stephen Goldin, and I've been a professional science fiction/fantasy writer for about 45 years. It's nice to see such a lively and diverse group going so strong. I just started my own q&a group, and I'd like to invite everyone over to check it out. I expect to be seeing people around at the various discussions.
Hi all. My name is Rachel and I'm a fairly new book reviewer/blogger. (Thank you Rick for inviting me to join your group.)I have always been a lover of books, but almost always anything and everything fiction.
I've been reading young adult paranormal fiction lately because I just love the imagination and adventures that are created in each and every one.
Hi everyone! Thanks to Rick for the invite. I'm happy to be part of this group. Looks like it will be fun and interesting. Thanks again!
