PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO YOUR FELLOW JAMES MASON MEMBERS!
Hello everyone. My name is Michael and I was referred to the group by Martin Treanor. I am an avid reader of just about any and all genres though I prefer horror and nonfictional history above all.
I look forward to being a part of this group and thank you for having me.
I also write...but it's almost exclusively horror stories, in the styles of Poe or Lovecraft or Machen.

Michael wrote: "Hello everyone. My name is Michael and I was referred to the group by Martin Treanor. I work for Suspense Magazine and they have a yearly short story contest where the feel of the story has to be suspense, mystery, horror, paranormal or even fantasy. This years contest ends on December 31st. but another contest will ensue next year. You are welcome to submit, if you win, you'll get books from each of the authors of the month for the year, some are even autographed and your story will be printed in the magazine. There's also a chance it will be printed before the contest is over. You can submit a story between 1,500 and 5,000 words by pasting it in the body of your email to editor@suspensemagazine.com. Attachments don't get open that's why you have to paste it in the body of the email. John Raab is the EIC/CEO. Good luck.
Thank you Rick, it's a pleasure to be a part of the group and I will definitely pass along the thanks to Martin.
I won't bog down the post with titles of my works, but "The Chapel by the Sea" is probably the biggest of what I have done to date.
If you check out my website, it has links to many of my stories. I hope you guys will take a minute and check a few out and let me know what you think.

I also posted a story here on Goodreads called Adrift which you can read in my stories on my profile.
Also anyone else who writes horror, please let me know. I love a good new read!

Thank you Teri, I will definitely keep that in mind and see if I can't scare up a submission for you :)
Here is another introduction to my writing published in The South Florida Chronicle: http://sflchronicle.com/2010/10/the-c...
It's a good example of the kind of horror I write and if you are a fan of Machen or Lovecraft I think you'll enjoy it :)

I would love to get involved and send something in for consideration. So give me a day or two to finish the newest story I have been working on and I will definitely send it in and hope to win lol.
Thank you very much for letting me know about the contest. I have never taken part in one before and am anxious to do so :D

I saw that you write horror and that's a big part of what we showcase. You should check out the mag. on line at www.suspensemagazine.com. I THINK there's a way to get a free issue, but I'm not positive. But the site tells a lot about the Suspense Family and what we do. Enjoy and I look forward to reading your work.

Hi. My name is Robert Rubenstein. I will not lead with the name of my novel, Ghost Runners (how bout that as a joke) but say how much I loved James Mason. When he gleefully told Shelly Winters, 'Oh, a gun!' it was sheer pleasure. That sick, wonderful man who should have been taken out and shot at dawn in 'Lolita'. Poor Humbert(?)Anyway, I am here so let the party begin!
Wow, thanks everyone for the welcome! I am happy to be amongst so many of my own kind here lol.
Hey Martin, very good to see you and thank you for the recommendation of this group my friend!

Hello, Thanks for the invitation to join James Mason. I've just finished A Morning for Flamingos by James Lee Burke. The man is a master. Before that, I read Death in Holy Orders by P. D. James. From the Deep South to London. I love all genres and literature.
I forgot to tell you that I'm the author of THE END GAME, which won the St. Martin's/Malice Domestic First Traditional Mystery Novel. I also write romantic suspense ebooks. Best to all. Gerrie
Hi all, I'm an author of three novels available for Kindle, iBooks and other e-readers: The Losing Role,
False Refuge, and Besserwisser: A Novel My novels often mix crime, history, mystery, noir and some humor. I hope to have The Losing Role out in print soon.
I also write screenplays and in my day job am a freelance copywriter. I pretty much read what I like to write, so if your name is Graham Greene, John LeCarré, Patricia Highsmith, Martin Cruz Smith, James Lee Burke (and so many more), I probably love to read you. And I really do like James Mason. Classy guy, and in a lot of movies I loved as a kid.
See ya around,
Steve

Hello, Everyone! I want to thank Rick for bringing this group to my attention. I was looking for some good general discussion groups and they are kind of hard to find with all the groups there are.I like to read all kinds of books from literary fiction and horror to sci-fi and fantasy. I've been reading more literary fiction recently, though.
I look forward to participating!
Paul

Thanks, Rick! It's nice to be here. Also, this world needs more James Masons.
I've joined this group due to Rick's hospitable invite but reading the impressive authorial bios of so many other group members is already making me feel almost too shy to post. I just finished rereading THE CORRECTIONS, inspired by a recent read of Franzen's newest novel, FREEDOM. These were interspersed with a reread of LOST ILLUSIONS followed by THE HARLOT HIGH AND LOW (Balzac, but of course you all knew that) and Graham Robb's marvelous biography of Balzac. Obviously I love big social novels about sex, class, and money, and I tend to revisit fictional worlds I've loved in the past.
Thanks for the invitation, I'm Vince. If joining this group doesn't make my TBR impossibly large, I don't know what will. I tend towards dark mysteries & thrillers, literary fiction, history & the occasional biography. Lately I've been trying to fit in some classics. I just started To Kill a Mockingbird for example. Any group that honors the great James Mason can't be bad! (The blu-ray of North by Northwest is exquisite. BD of Lolita is supposed to be released in 2011.)

Hey everybody,My name is Gerald Rice and my first novel, The Ghost Toucher was just published in September. I also just put out a book of shorts called Goners for the Kindle.
I'm a huuuuuuge horror fan and just about any new F. Paul Wilson (especially Repairman Jack) novel that comes out I get immediately.
I'm hoping to have my next novel out around this time this year, but so far I'm behind. Here's to catching up.
Hello, all. My name is Brian Leung, author of the recent novel, TAKE ME HOME. Thank you Rick for inviting me. I'm a native of Southern California but no live, write and teach in Louisville, Kentucky. I'm happy to be in this group and happy to discuss books, even if they aren't mine! But if you do have questions about my novel, let me know!
Howdy, y'all! Can you guess where I'm from? Yes, that's right. I'm from Texas, but let me set you straight on one thing right up front. It's not true what they say. Everything is NOT bigger in Texas. For instance, I'm only 6-8 and 375! ;-)
Thanks for the invite! I love James Mason! I have 2 online businesses & on my downtime I read. I have been keeping up with what i've read since last Easter. I never had time before then. I love it and forgot how fun it is!
Welcome to all the new members - I can't believe how fast this group is growing. Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

Hola Felix!
Thanks for inviting me, Rick. This looks like a fabulous group. I'm a romantic suspense writer and also I do read many other genres. If I had more time, I'd read everything. I've been away from the classics for a while. I used to read them in high school, so it will be interesting to read discussions on the timely pieces.
I also like the fact that you have such a variety of topics discussed. I'm sure this will be a lot of fun.
