My name is Brad and I belong to that most reviled group, hated more than the Taliban and trial lawyers. Yes, I am a dentist.Do I get off on sticking needles in people? You betcha'. Sometimes. But seriously, I really do enjoy taking out teeth.
Anyway, like everyone here, I am an avid reader, mostly horror, thrillers and fantasy. Favorite books? American Gods by the Sandman himself, Gaiman, and Weaveworld, a perfect blend of horror and fantasy by Barker, and The War of the Flowers, by Tad Williams.
I like to consider myself an author, though, for better or for worse, I have another profession. I write horror.
I currently have a two short story collection out, both of them dental themed, which is a weird stroke of coincidence since they are my ONLY two dental stories out of the 2 dozen I am editing. I like real horror. No vampire soap operas or zombie bloodbaths. I've read my share of these, but am not interested in writing them.
So if you're interested in checking out my style and stories, check out Pandora's Children Book 1: In the Chair. I have decided to release several short story collections before my first novel because I like the idea of easing readers into my style and my brain.
So check me out- occasionally I will be posting original short stories to my profile/blog/whatever for free consumption under the writings section. By The Teeth of His Skin coming soon.
And you can also read about my barely controlled diabetic daschund and that morning men came to my apartment in biohazard suits.
Thanks for your time, friends.
Being seeing you in the chair

Hello all, I'm new to the group. I'm a full time surgeon and part time author with two futuristic novels published, "Future Hope ITP Book One" and Joshua and Aaron ITP Book Two". I look forward to paticipating in some of the varied discussions. My web site is http://www.ruffianpress.com
Welcome to all the new people who have joined since I last checked this thread. I've been on the other side of Australia and couldn't keep up to date with all my groups. This has got to be one of the most diverse groups in existence...in terms of age, interests and books. Nice to see that a few more Aussies have joined the group. (Also take a look at Aussie Readers ... another very friendly group) Great to see some more authors as well...those books look most intriguing! So many books...so little time. But when you want something fun to do, make sure you check out the games in this group....just scroll down a bit, or type in 'games' where it says 'search posts'...see you there!
Dog was in the hospital for a week back in Feb, three months later diagnosed with Cushings Disease, taking meds for that, $8 a pill, thankfully one pill lasts 2 weeks. For the past seven months, hovering between low 400s and high 300s, changed his food to Science Diet W/D, and for the first time he is in the 100s. He was on 20 units of insulin 2x a day and was still through the roof. Going blind, though, and blind dog plus two small kids equals disaster in the making
Thanks, Rick for asking! I can't believe it's taken me so long to introduce myself!I'm CJ Lyons, a pediatric ER doc turned suspense/thriller novelist. I'm a bit busy right now as the finale of my Angels of Mercy series, CRITICAL CONDITION, is coming out November 30th from Berkley/Jove, I just launched a new e-book, BLIND FAITH on Amazon, and my new series co-written with Erin Brockovich, has its first book, ROCK BOTTOM, coming out March 1st....plus I have looming deadlines for my next books, yikes!
Despite all that, I've been reading tons--seems the busier I get, the more I need to read, it's better than comfort food. Just finished ROOM which I thought was fabulous and am starting Laura Lippman's I'd Know You Anywhere.
Happy reading, everyone!
CJ

Hi Jan,I just looked at your piccie, you could be Carrie Kings' identical twin!! She is the author of 'The Life in the Woods with Joni-Pip',which in my humble opinion should be a world wide best seller!
I'm not too bad an author but I'm not in her league, not many are!
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]
Hey everyone ... And thanks for the invite, Rick.Ah ... the Book, some powerful, life altering magic packed in those things, true?
I have been free-roaming the lists of JMCBC -- What an amazing assembly of diverse grey-cells! Indeed, I am quite overawed.

Hi,I'm a new member, invited by Rick who has just read my book Danann Frost Falls from Grace. It is a paranormal fantasy and is written for everyone but there are all those little extras for the more discerning reader. All those extra little details, depths and hints. My bio has most of my info so I won't bother repeating it all here but feel free to have a look-see.
In a nutshell, I am a 40 year old wife and mother who began writing at age 39 after totally hating writing to that point but always having loved reading. I wrote for 99 days straight and came out with 5 very large novels. I began editing but still needed to continue creating, so I wrote Danann Frost Falls from Grace in 19 days and then took a week off before writing the sequel in 21. My husband likes to say that my books turn good women into neglectful wives and mothers because once you start my book, it is impossible to stop. LOL
The first quarter of my book is available for free download from my website joannevaliukas.com and it's around 100 pages, so it will give you a good chance to see if you like it or not. For up to date news, I am on Facebook and though I am relatively new to goodreads, I am finding my way through.
I am not very tech or web savy but I am getting there with the patience of others.
My first love is reading and will always be, this makes me a better writer because I began writing due to frustration in some of the things I was reading. I got sick of authors changing their own rules or ignoring difficult issues.
Anyway, enough about me, I would like to know all of you and I'm always happy to chat or answer questions.
Jo
So many new people - welcome and I really wish I had more time to spend here getting to know you better. At the moment just busy, busy, busy getting new book ready for release :)

Danann Frost Falls from Grace is a very fine read indeed and I have little doubt that those who do sample it will choose to read "the whole thing"!!

Hello and thank you for the invitation to join, Rick. I love to read a variety of books and especially enjoy those that prompt the most intense emotions in me. I just finished reading JM Coetzee's "Disgrace" last evening (which left me with a strong dislike for the main character). I live in Newfoundland and I'm also a writer (pediatric solid tumours and a chapter in an academic book on rural governance...how's that for variety?).
I look forward to participating in the group. Cheers!

Hi, Rick! Thanks for the invite, and what a fun place to hang out. I'm an urban fantasy writer with two print books and five e-books currently available from DCL Publications. I am writing a Civil War steampunk novel, as well as a middle grade book about a 12-year-old boy who's being bullied. I'm a voracious reader, and I read in all genres. I'm currently enjoying The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. His 11-year-old heroine, Flavia de Luce, is quite a corker. James Mason would have loved her!
Wow, so many interesting people in one place! Guess I better introduce myself instead of just lurking! My name is Tammy and I am a book reviewer for a well known women's literary magazine. Thus, all the chic-lit, and romances one will find on my book list. I actually like reading all kinds of books from the above to paranormal, suspense and classics. I think this group will give me a chance to explore different avenues.
Apart from books, music is my greatest passion. I have taught music in the school system, as well as privately, for 20 years now!
Thank you, Rick for the great invitation. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and enjoying this wonderful reading community!

Thanks for the invitation, I read about 130 books a year and try different authors and genres, but I love mystery and thriller suspense. I just finished Spider Bones, by Kathe Reich. I love Julie Kramer and was able to meet her yesterday. Silencing Sam was fun to read.

Pandora's Succession seems like a real winner!!!
The blow to the side of his head dropped Ridley Fox to the floor. The cold surface against the side of his face, the jarring pain, and the spinning were the last things he remembered before he blacked out. When he awoke, the throbbing pain remained as he was dragged by his legs across the floor, the concrete scraping the back of his scalp. He opened his eyes, only to stare into the barrel of a Russian AK-108 assault riffle that was less than a foot above him.
His fiancée, Jessica, died at the hands of his captors two years ago. Would it be instant, like hers, or would they torture me first? Fox guessed the latter. She was murdered just a few hours after he proposed to her. He promised her to give up his career in the Joint Task Force Two (JTF2)—Canada’s equivalence to America’s SEALs—to settle down with her. The heavy drinking and bar fights soon followed. That ended shortly with Fox in a prison holding cell. That’s where he met his current CIA superior, General Paul Downing, and learned everything about the weapons consortium know as the Arms of Ares—his captors.
Fox mentally shook away that memory as he watched a tangled web of exposed pipes and cheap wire mesh-covered light bulbs that ran along the ceiling while being dragged along a concrete floor. One of the guards yelled at him in Russian. Although Fox was fluent in the language, as well as a few others from each continent, he was too disoriented to listen. All he did was count down to the moment of his own execution.

Thanks, Rick.So far reviewers have compared it to The Bourne Identity, and the best of Michael Crichton.
My blog tour is still going on. I invite you and everyone to follow me along the tour. I'm giving away prizes to everyone that leaves a comment and ten will be chosen to win an autographed copy of Pandora's Succession. So I've spiced up the tour to appeal to everyone. So come check it out.
Visit http://www.russellparkway.com/news.html for details.
See you all on the tour.
Best,

Hello Everyone! Thank you for the invitation Rick. This group seems to discuss many great topics and I'm excited to see that there will be a book discussion for War and Peace starting today. I've been wanting to read it for a while now, and I just picked it up from the library. About me...I run a martial arts studio, I enjoy working out at the gym, yoga, healthy cooking, baking and doing needlework. I'm an avid reader and when I'm not reading you'll find me at the library or the bookstore! I don't have a favorite author, but I do have a favorite publisher...it's called Europa Editions and there based here in NY. They translate and publish popular European novels. I've ready many of their books and have yet to be disappointed (they published Elegance of the Hedgehog)..check them out! Happy reading!
Just joined the group. My name is Ashley. I love to read. I am a total bookaholic. I read a lot of YA novels. I'm also into memoirs, lesbian romance novels, other GLBT themed novels, etc.
