Brenda Hi all..my name is Brenda. I'm from Newcastle, NSW, Australia! Thanks for the invite Rick!
I love reading with a passion, and am a member of our book club at my local library...have been for over 12 months now. It's broadened my reading horizons immensely, which I love.
I'm currently reading 'A Secret Kept' by Tatiana de Rosnay. It's her second book, the first being 'Sarah's Key', which we read with the book club. It was an amazing read, and so far, 'A Secret Kept' is promising to be as good.

Laura Rittenhouse | 4 comments Wow, what a group. Rick is doing an amazing job recruiting.

I'm Australian, living in Sydney. I've been a keen reader since finishing university (I somehow missed out on reading as a child) and a few years ago took that passion in a new direction. Now I'm an author. I threw off the shackles of a career in IT and now write. I've had one book published Starting Over and have several in various stages of development.

Groups like this are great for readers and a big help for writers. Lurking around reading what everyone says about books gives some interesting insight when trying to write that masterpiece.

Cheryl (cherylbaryl) | 5 comments Thanks Rick for inviting me to this group! I am a school secretary from Michigan and obviously love to read. I like making new friends on Goodreads and finding out about new books to read. I am always amazed at how you can meet that one person who introduces you to a book and you find a new type of book that you never knew you would enjoy reading!

KimWin | 1 comments Thank you Rick for the invite. I am Kim Winter and I am an avid reader. I am on my 105th book of the year (my goal is 144, but I think I am going to be short this year.) I am a high school English teacher. I dream of being an author but never have time to write. I would rather read.... ;)Kim

message 1264: by Gracee (new)

Gracee | 2 comments Hi, my name is Gracee, I'm a California native. Thank you Rick for the invite. I enjoy reading historical fiction - generally from the 1100's to the 1800's. Stories from WWI, WWII, Holocaust stories, time travel and historical mystery. Generally anything except chic-lit, although I do enjoy Christan stories past and present as well.

Can you believe we do not have a "new" bookstore locally...? We have three "used" bookstores. (which I do frequent) Plus our new, beautiful library. My husband can't understand why I need to have 80+ books available at my fingertips ready to read. I think I'd panic without a book available. I even keep an "emergency read" under the front seat of my car just in case I get somewhere and I've forgotten my current read. I know you all understand!
:)
happy reading!

Gracee, my husband and your husband should get together and complain. I think I have 89 books checked out of the library + 11 ebooks from the library. Plus the pile of about 50 books I bought, including the 23 last month that I haven't read yet. That's why he bought me a Nook, so I could reduce the clutter. It has gone down a little, I used to have more. Now I have about 300+ books on the Nook I haven't read and still need new bookshelves.

message 1266: by Shay (new)

Shay | 528 comments Oh, I and I have an open "cart" at Better World Books because they have a sale going on. I still am adding more books to the cart... (Used books, all the money goes to literacy charities/libraries, free shipping in the US. About $4 shipping worldwide.)

lol that's why I won't buy an e-reader. I don't think it will cut down on my paper and ink consumption of books on iota ;)

message 1268: by Jan C (new)

Jan C (woeisme) Actually I have cut down on my trips to Borders since I got my kindle. But I still go a lot and I am now up to about 70 on the kindle. I try to restrain myself. The abileto sample a book is saving me some.

Hi Cheryl & welcome. Where in Michigan are you? I live in Warren. My sister works for the Center Line school district and my nephew is an assistant principal somewhere on the West side of the state. He used to work for Dawagiac schools but I think he switched school districts when he took the asst. principal job. Hope you enjoy the discussions on this group.

Barbara (lv2scpbk) | 48 comments Hi everyone, My name is Barb and I've been on Goodreads for a little over 2 yrs now. Rick also introduced me to this group. I started reading more within the last 3 yrs and my taste range alot. Most times I am reading one book, while listening on audio to another one, while browsing a self-help type book in the mix, like organizing, scrapbooking, stuff like that. I generally like to listen to stuff like Stephen King on audio and read stuff like "Water for Elephants" as a book. Not sure why I do this, but I just do. Right now I volunteer at a animal shelter and love it! Not sure what everyone is writing about in intro, but glad I'm here.

Teawench Hello
My name is Christina and I've been reading since before I could actually read. I read just about anything and pretty much everything. And I have this horrible disease that makes me want to own books. Sadly, I don't have an e-reader yet. But only because I don't have a job. Other things about me? I cross-stitch, canoe, hike, cook, bake, PC game and whatever else might strike my fancy at any particular moment.

Thanks for the invite!

I also share your "NEED" to own books as my Amazon account can amply prove!

message 1280: by Teawench (new)

Teawench Heh...I try to stay out of the 'new' bookstores because I'd very quickly go bankrupt. Most of my books have come from used bookstores and garage sales. Which is probably worse, now that I think about it, because it just means I can buy more. Well, worse for my husband anyway, who has to deal with books everywhere.

Ciara | 6 comments Hello. My name is Ciara-Ariel. I am an honors student in the 8th grade. I know that my reading level is college grade along with my algebra level. I love to read and recently sold my tv for money to buy an amazon kindle. I have read a few thousand books and I am currently reading Beautiful Dead by Yvonne Woon. Next on my list of things to read is Richelle Meads next installment in the Vampire Academy series. My favorite type of books to read are paranormal-romance with mystery. I can stand only a few books that are realistic fiction like Simone Elkeles's Perfect Chemistry. I also like horror. Like Steven King, Edgar Allan Peo, though his are harder to understand because of the language use. I also look foward to Cassandra Clare's City of Fallen Angels. I pride myself as an intelligent young biracial teen. Thanks for inviting me Rick :)

WELCOME MICHEL!!!

Welcome Robyn - to answer your question- "Why James Mason"- a little over a year ago- when I started this Group- it initially was as a tribute to, and in memory of, my favorite actor James Mason. I had no clue we would expand so very much into a muchmore then just another bookclub- but a community of book lovers numbering in the thousands! So while I did change the name of the Group to reflect our diversity- I can never forget the original impetus for starting the Group- To help keep the memory of James Mason alive.
Hope that answers your question- so happy to have you and Michel as our newest members!

Kyle (kansaskyle) Greetings!

My TV broke one summer when I was around 12, and after of few days of being bored to tears I started to read. Somehow it took all summer to get the TV fixed, but by then I was an avid reader.

I don't fixate on a specific genre, I just want to find a good story. I saw the group and buddy read discussions, so I thought I would join in.

Thanks,

Kyle
