Meryl Streep was the best part of Julie & Julia!
Welcome to all the new members!! This is a wonderful group. Rick's very welcoming & friendly attitude has set the tone for the rest of us. I feel very much "at home" here & I hope you all will, too.

Greetings. I've been rather enthusiastically invited to join the group here by Rick, so I decided to give it a go - even though I'm in far too many groups as is! I'll probably mostly be lurking in the background, but figured I ought to introduce myself anyways for when I do post. :>Not much to tell of myself, really. Sticking with book reading habits - I read mostly fantasy, but I also enjoy the occassional mystery, especially it's either historical or historical fiction or mixed in with elements of magic or such (i.e. Steampunk and Gaslamp Fantasy). I don't read primarily British books or authors - tho I loved Harry Potter, am a fan of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and just recently have been reading the Sherlock Holmes stories. Oh, and I read a lot of Juvenille and YA books, recently including 'The Mysteries of Enola Holmes', the much younger sister of Sherlock, and I highly recommend them for a quick, light read.
Oh, and I had no idea who James MAson was until I looked him up. :-S
Hello from Califonia where summer (seems to) never ends. I read in all genres and write in quite a few. Right now I am on the hunt for Halloween books like A Night in the Lonesome October or Death of a Trickster by Kate Borden.

Thank you for the invitation, Rick. I love to read all types of books and look forward to chatting with all of you. =)
I'm new here! I love to read and talk about books, and until I had kids, I'd read anything and everything I could get my hands on. Now I'm a bit more picky, for time is precious. All the same, you'll still catch me with a book in my hands rather than watching TV.I also loooooove to write. I recently was part of a YA anthology project called Unlocked, Ten Key Tales. This was a not-for-profit project to promote the talents of some new authors. You can download a free copy on www.UnlockedProject.com
Enjoy!

Hey everyone! I love to read, write, and chat with people both in real life and online! I'm a contributing author to the Unlocked anthology mentioned below. My short story, "Shoshanna" was one of the ten lucky stories to be selected for the project! If you download it I promise there is something for everyone: from Regency, to fantasy, to sci-fi, to good ole' high school angst!
Can't wait to chat to everyone :D

Hello all. My name is Catherine Banks. I'm a new author and an avid book lover. My debut novel SONG OF THE MOON
was released this year. I'm 24 years old, mother of a 2 year old, a legal secretary and a video game nerd. I'm excited to have been asked to join this group and can't wait to start reading some of the discussions.

I would also like to thank Rick for inviting me to join this group. It was a nice surprise receiving an invitation out of the blue...and one that really seemed to key into my reading interests instead of being just random. You all sound like intriguing people! I am a former librarian who has been a 'housewife' and mom for the past (almost) six years. I miss my daily contact with books and other avid readers from my days at work. I have found Goodreads to be a wonderful way to 'meet' fellow book addicts and have gotten many fantastic book recommendations through this site.
I read a wide variety of things...basically whatever grabs me at the moment. I have always been an anglophile. Many of the books I gravitate toward are written by British authors and have a setting in the UK. I enjoy mysteries and suspense novels. I also enjoy some historical fiction, pop culture titles, non fiction (mainly history, social criticism/study) and other quirky stuff.
I try to write reviews for everything I read. Goodreads has really helped me to organize my reading and writing. I enjoy reading other reader's reviews as well.
Looking forward to spending some time getting to know this group and the other members!

very Welcome,Lori!!
very Welcome,Lori!!
Looks like a great group here! As you can probably guess, I LOVE BOOKS!!! Been reading a lot of paranormal, but I'm pretty open to anything. I do reviews for a few professional sites. It's been a great way to discover authors I wouldn't have probably found otherwise and it's always nice to give some constructive feedback. I absolutely don't believe in author bashing, so rest assured you won't find that from me. Looking forward to chatting with everyone :)Thanks for the invite to join Rick.
Wow, Rick has been inviting folks to join the group left and right since I last checked this thread. So, here goes. A big, big welcome to:James, Sorriso, Seth, Valjeanne, Crystal, Athena, Dawn, Denise, Doulton, Casey, Isla, Kathleen, Colleen, Melanie, Rita, Kyle, Alexsandra, Crown Publishing, Catherine, Lori, and yadkny!!!
If you like mysteries, so do I. I love to read them and write them, and to become GR friends with fellow mystery lovers.
Thanks for the invite, Rick.I'm from the Chicago area. I read a wide variety of books, including some British ones. Espcially like mysteries - great to read on the commute. You don't have to pay too much attention.
I tend to read a number of books at the same time. Not sure if I just get bored with them or am trying to figure out just how many stories I can remember at one time.

Hello - I have dropped in and out and am back in again, now that I understand that it is not all about James Mason but about books. I am an author of three published works ( 2 novels and a collection of short stories) and am looking at the e-book world for my next few manuscripts that are piled up waiting to see the light of the world.
Thanks for inviting me.I'm an elementary school teacher and LOVE to read. I've taught 2nd grade for 15 years. I read novels to my kids every year and have read many, each year, over and over and over. I joined a reading challenge this summer for the very first time. I'm having a blast branching out to new choices. I love reading all kinds of books from children's, YA, mysteries, --- well, I'll read just about anything except really gory, scary. That freaks me out. I love the classics. I'm a late bloomer, and didn't start loving
to read until I was in my late 20's. So, my TBR list is enourmous and I'm wanting to read all I missed ames a child. My very favortite book is Jane Eyre and I've read it many times.
Thanks---
Books are my passion, and I feel incomplete without one in reach. I'm an author, reviewer and blogger and have had a love affair with books and story-telling since first or second grade when I read "The Three Musketeers" to pieces. I count myself very fortunate that I've been able to make a career as an author and reviewer, and that a major university recently bought my literary papers. Meet me on the web at http://www.levraphael.com

Hey, Rick thanks! I love writing them, love writing everything or I wouldn't write. publishing is the tricky part. :-)
Hi Ya'll. I'm ni one special, just a sah mom of 3 rocking kids, all under 5. I love to read when I should be doing housework. I am a lover of romance novels, but more so erotica. I think its more realistic and gritty then typical romance. I prefer paranormal and historical romance. If I can combine them or even throw in some dirty talk I'm all over it. I haven't read a lot outside my favored genre as it never seems to keep my attention even with my ADD. =)
Reading beats housework any day! What a lot of interesting people are joining the group...and so many writers. I'm really enjoying this group especially the latest addition....the James Mason Games....scroll down, down, to find it ...and see you there! Big welcome to all newcomers! *goes back to the game*

You should try a gothic, like Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre. Romance, plus a little horror. You know, a gothic would be a nice change of pace after the two buddy reads we are doing now.
Hey all - and thank you Nanette for the invite. I'm Martin Treanor - I write speculative and supernatural fiction, quite often a medley of the both. I have published stories in many sorts of journals and countries, and my first novel - working title: THE SILVER MIST - will be published by Better Karma in 2011.
My first big read was 'The Adventures of Sam Pig' - it rocked my infant world - quickly progressing to Tom Sawyer, and onward to the point that my life was never without some book or other.
I am Irish, living in London - and, by way of paying tribute to the man himself, would like to say that James Mason's portrayal of Ivo Kern in 'The Man Between' is outstanding cinema.
It's great to meet you all.
Martin :)
Welcome Martin.
I love your story about your first read. Maybe I should get Rick to start a thread about books that rocked our 'infant world'. (I like that expression.) For me it was 'Where the Wild Things Are'. It was read to me in Kindergarten. I remember it so vividly. :)

HelloI have been a member here for a while but I don't think I have introduced myself. I'm an author (plays and novels) and I live in London. A couple of my books are Alison Wonderland and Being Light. They were first published by Gollancz about ten years ago and I have just brought out new print and ebook editions.
I love reading and I'm looking forward to getting recommendations from this group. Two books by British authors that I have really enjoyed in recent weeks are My Dirty Little Book of Stolen Time: A Novel and The City & The City
I have a blog - please come and say hello.
Helen

I agree about The Man Between- James and Claire Bloom were superb together- but it is Mason's film all the way- as is just about every film he made!

Thanks Gail and Rick - it's a privilege to be here.I was thirty eight before I read 'Where The Wild Things Are' - and it instantly shaved thirty years off the clock. I like kids books, and kids books authors - they bring us back, and help us ask the questions we'd forgotten we could.
I've heard so many good things about 'Alison Wonderland', but have never got around to reading it. It's on my list now - thank you Rick for the reminder.'

Thanks for the invitation to this active group, Rick! I am an anglophile, whose love of reading was cemented in early adolescence with novels by the Brontes, Thomas Hardy, and Daphne du Maurier. I still prefer to read books set in Britain, particularly historically, although I also devour British mysteries of any time period.I'm the author of 4 historical novels that showcase Canadian history within the international community. I'm thrilled that
was recently chosen as one of the 6 "must-read" books of the prestigious Muskoka Chautauqua Reading Circle for 2010.I'm also honoured that educators and researchers worldwide have been using my website Odd, Intriguing, Surprising Facts about WW1 . I wanted to share some of the fascinating bits of info that I had come across in my research, not all of which I was able to incorporate into my two novels set during the war.
For more information about my novels, including a book trailer and sample chapters, please visit my main website at Mindshadows.com.

Not a bother Helen - I've only ever heard great things, and have been spurred into action to finally read it. Have a superb week ...
Martin :)
