Thank you, Rick.

To all the new members that I've missed, welcome. I warn you, the group moves fast, reads fast and talks fast. I think Rick reads every book as it come out! Then he goes back in time and picks up the ones he missed.

Keep reading Rick and all.

I'm writing, which is why you don't see much of me here. Gotta grab those thoughts as they come at ya.

Barb | 9 comments I'm new to Goodreads and this is the first group I've joined, because I like British literature and lighter fiction as well. And because when we get together with our friends Dave and Carole, Dave and my husband love to say "Jaaames Mazn" from deep in their chests and then converse in this voice.

Lev Raphael | 23 comments I'm an American author but have been an Anglofan since junior high. Most recently I've been plunging into huge books by Trollope, who I never read in college, and have loved "The Way We Live Now" and also "The Eustace Diamonds." I've just started "He Knew He Was Right" and having seen the miniseries doesn't spoil it at all. I love his voice.

Did you see the 1970's vintage miniseries from Masterpiece Theater, or another? Because I just gave up watching that one midway through the third disc. I didn't care for Plantagenet's wooden countenance and affect, but ultimately couldn't take Burgoo and George's scenery chewing. If there's another version, I'd like to know about it because I did like the book very much.

Martha (marthas48) Hi, Libby! I'm originally from the south, but live in the midwest now. How are you doing in this heat wave? I love a variety, too. Just finished an audible book & trying to decide which one to start next.

message 817: by Libby (new)

Libby (southernmax) | 4 comments Martha, the heat is so bad now that I haven't walked in days.....humidity is unbearable....Miss. is being hit bad, it has been about ten days and counting....thank God for air...lol....hope that ya'll are cool! I need to try an audio book...listen to them in the car...

message 818: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Libby, I listen as I drive & sometimes at work. If a task (I do desk work) doesn't require full attention I can listen. So I get at least an hr a day, 5 days a week of listening. I love them!! Audible's iPhone app gives badges & i have one for having over 200 books in my audible library! I had no idea I had that many!!
I grew up in Leesville, Louisiana where I met my husband. He was in the Army which is how I ended up in Illinois. I stay because my kids & grandkids are here! LOL I thought I move into yankee country where the summers would be nice ... boy, was I surprised. It's cooler today, thank goodness.

Libby (southernmax) | 4 comments Thanks, I will try the audible app. I have a kindle and have piled up some books on that thing! Thanks for the tip....

I've really gotten into Murakami lately. I'm a hack wannabe writer as well, and I'm passionate about the guitar and anything with strings.

Deborah (thebookishdame) | 28 comments Hi, I'm Deborah. Currently retired to Naples, FL, where it's nearly paradise...perfect weather all year 'round, Gulf breezes, iced tea is good any day, and reading is the hobby of choice! I'm a regular on Goodreads and in several groups. Currently reading "Tales of A Jazz Age," by F. Scott Fitzgerald for his short stories...highly recommend. I'm a through and through Bronte sisters devote'. I'm fond of Ms Austen, but have to say the Bronte's are more my cup of tea...darkish, psychologically struggling...well, you know the stuff.... :] Currently, I seem to be bewitched, as well, by the Brotherhood of the Blackdaggers...JR Ward's beautiful and dangerous vampire boys. Can't get enough of them and their very sexy, scary schemes. Sigh...you may also find me with my nose in either my Kindle (Stella's her name), or my new Nook, whose name is "Sookie," after "you-know-who."

Linda (bikrgran) Greetings! I'm new to this group. I'm new to Goodreads, as well. Thank you, Rick, for the invitation. I'm also a member of the Addicts group. All this is new & daunting, but I'm slowly getting into it. I've joined a local book club, and have a bag of books to read, already, but it's interesting to see who's reading what, why and what their take is, on them.

Hi Karen- Barb gave you a great recommendation
also if I might recommend - Classics- PG Wodehouse, Wilkie Collins (Start with The Moonstone) and also if you like a bit of zanyness(is that a word?) Terry Pratchett.

Dave Cullen (davecullen) | 9 comments Hi, I'm Dave. I joined GoodReads a ways back, but there are so many different forum areas, I'm only now getting to most of them. This looks interesting. Thanks for the invite, Rick.

I wrote Columbine which took way too long (10 years), and I'm hoping to crank the next one out in three. Ish.

I was also kind of frustrated by my publisher's ability to get the book trailer seen--and my efforts, too. I've relaunched it now, and hope it gets to a few more eyes. The book is very different than people expect, and I think the trailer lays it out well. (One of the South Park guys did it, and he was/is brilliant.)

Dave Cullen (davecullen) | 9 comments Thanks, Rick.

I was surprised how well it turned out. All I had to do was answer a bunch of questions--and since I'd written them, that should have made it pretty easy. Haha. But I was kinda nervous and kept going off on tangents, as I tend to do.

But the filmmaker was really patient with me, and kept trying it different ways. He was also bright to have me drive, and then film me in the car. I was much better while distracted by driving--forgot to be nervous. (Seriously. He's learned a few tricks along the way.) I did drive right past the cemetery while answering a question, but no biggie.

He got hours of footage and then edited it down really well. I was stunned by how much he crammed into 3 minutes.

Dave Cullen (davecullen) | 9 comments Thanks, Martha & Toni.

The video could use some thumbs-up clicks over at youtube, too. (And some links.)

Youtube is still a bit of a mystery to me. I made some other videos there, discussing aspects of the book. They got a few hundred views, but nothing significant.

Maybe I'll figure it out by my next book. haha.
