Marialyce Thank you Rick for inviting me to join this group. I do love to read and I do jump around in the various types of literature that I chose. I do usually read only one book at a time and do have the fault of not stopping a book even if I dislike it. I somehow feel it will get better and I will miss out on something wonderful.

I have four children who are also readers so we share a lot of our literature choices with one another. I did teach for a number of years but decided to take early retirement so that I could have the time to do more reading.

To find new books, I check the Barnes and Noble "coming soon" category for what appeals to me. I then put myself on the waiting list at my local library. I belong to the library book club as well.

Well, that's about it about me. Again, thanks for the invite and happy reading!

message 554: by pop (new)

pop I'm a bit late in posting this. I too am disabled with back problems. So now I write my own books, edit for hire, write reviews, and design marketing programs for others. I actually read very little not related to what I'm doing these days. Frankly, I read so much as part of the job, reading for pleasure isn't much fun any more. Thankfully, I read fast, but I can't when editing, I don't want to miss things. I have not read many of the English authors, other than some of the classics, so I don't really know why I joined this group. I am proud of the fact that my review got an English author, Carrie King, noticed by an American publisher. That deal is in progress, I hope it's a good one. For those of you that haven't read Life in the Woods with Joni-Pip, I highly recommend it. It's an instant classic on par with the greats. So, now that I've worked in my product placement ad, lets see, is there anything else y'all need to know about me? Oh yeah, I live in Alabama these days, I have for the past ten... maybe twelve years. I'm from the Colorado mountains originally however. People here think I sound like a damn Yankee, though to people in other places, they think I talk like a southerner. Mostly, I talk like a country boy, because that's what I truly am. Oh, I collect musical instruments of all varieties, so if anyone's got a donation to that collection, let me know. I can probably at least pay for the shipping, though at times, even that can be tough, paydays for editing are not on a regular basis.

My name is Andrea. I live in Canada, work in a very boring job and live vicariously through books. I particularly enjoy historical fiction, though on occasion I love a good scare or a great mystery.

Trina | 1 comments Thanks Rick for the invitation. Hi everyone my name is Trina, I'm 25 and of course love to read. I have a bad habit of reading 4-5 books at one time (not sure if that is a bad habit, but I really do a lot of rereading). I love to read just about everything, it just has to catch my attention. Plus, reading really seems to help the time go by faster while my boyfriend is overseas. I'm hoping that this group will help to focus my reading a bit more and also broaden my horizons of the books that I do read.

Anita Clenney (anitaclenney) | 2 comments Hi. Thanks for the invitation, Rick. I'm Anita Clenney. I've been a reader all my life, a writer for the last few years. I write Paranormal Romance about Secret Warriors, Ancient Evil and Destined Love. The first book in this series will be released May 2011. www.anitaclenney.com for more info. IF we're not allowed to talk about our writing, please let me know.

I love all kinds of books, but I prefer romance and mysteries and love it when they're combined. The last book I read wasn't a romance. It was Jeri Westerson's Serpent in the Thorns. Great book.

Luther Butler (lbutler) | 11 comments Speaking of bookstores, come visit Larry McMurtry's at Archer City, Texas. Larry McMurtry was born in Archer City, Texas, the son of Hazel Ruth (née McIver) and William Jefferson McMurtry, who was a rancher.[1:] He grew up on a ranch outside Archer City, Texas, which is the model for the town of Thalia that appears in much of his fiction. He earned degrees from North Texas State University (B.A. 1958) and Rice University (M.A. 1960
In 1988 he opened another Booked Up in Archer City, which is one of the largest single used bookstores in the United States, carrying somewhere between 400,000 and 450,000 titles. Citing economic pressures from Internet bookselling, McMurtry came close to shutting down the Archer City store in 2005, but chose to keep it open after an outpouring of public support

My name is Karen and like most of you I am a bookaholic, my idea of a great shopping trip is to hit one of the four areas in my town with lots of charity shops and spend hours wandering from one to the other. I will buy from amazon if I know exactly what I'm looking for but I love to browse as you never know what will catch your eye.

Tuck was orphaned when cruel Indians killed
his mother on their farm in Kentucky. Left to die
along the trail he was saved by Old Ed. The
tender boy was taken to Matagorda, Texas
where he grew up with his human family of Old

Mixed into the family were a bunch of animals

Jason, contact me offlist, there's someone you should meet, at least online. She's a classical musician that is now an author and into all things books. You'd have a lot to talk about. She used to travel the world as a pianist, she's played all the famous places, and was trained both at Juliard and Eastman School. She was in Eastman about the same time as Yo Yo Ma.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 145 comments Hi
I've been on G.R. for several months and only just found my way here. I write under the name of Timothy Pilgrim. If any of you are interseted I will be on the authors on line stand at the Winchester writers conferance on 25th and 26th of June along with several other authors such as Sue Rule [cloak of magic:] If all goes to plan it will also see the launch of my new book on 'grow your own' written under my own name.Use our stand as a meeting point
On the 11th of July I will be introducing the speakers of a self publishing forum at the Frome festival. These will include Sue Rule[again:] David Elliot author of Clan both short listed for the Brit Writers awards at the O2 arena 3 days after Frome and Sarah Wittaker a very successful self published cook book author. The entire spectrum of independant publishing will be covered from P.O.D. short run, audio and ebooks. With Bristol author Dereck Hucklesby signing copies of his brilliant book 'The Apothacary' it should be a brilliant day out.
I look forward to meeting some of you at either festival.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer:]

My name is Ed. I'm also the Chief Curmudgeon on the "History, Actual, Fictional and Legendary" discussion site.

I spend most of my GR time moderating but will definitely dip in here when I have something to say.

Katerina Zhecheva Hello, there!
My name is Catherina and I am from Bulgaria – small European country, use Google Map for more information xD.
I am very grateful for the invitation and find this group interesting and useful. Books have been my passion for most of my life and I am glad I have the opportunity to share my thoughts and opinions with other booklovers. My only regret is that my level of English might prevent me from fully expressing myself. I apologize in advance for this complication, but it is always hard to communicate in language different from your native one, so I hope you will forgive my mistakes.
Back to the topic, I read a lot and write a little, unfortunately everything I have written is in Bulgarian, so I can’t share it for reviews :(. Still, I hope we could exchange thoughts about literature, I don’t have favorite genre, although lately I have been reading mainly classical authors. More about that in the appropriate sections :).

Mandy Hello everyone and thank you, Rick, for the invite.

I have been a member of GR for a couple of years now and since then my book collection has multiplied beyond belief - I love it though, whatever mood I'm in I know there's a book in my bookcase ready to be read, be it humour, adventure, chick lit, et cetera.

I started a blog this year:

Drop by and check it out if you like. It's mostly about book reviews and author interviews but there are a few other tidbits in there as well.

I look forward to making my way around the threads ☺

so pleased you saw this Group on a friend's page- I also have been a HUGE James Mason fan- since I was about 14 and saw Heaven Can Wait- I started this Group in Oct primarily to keep his memory alive- that it has expanded into a wonderful community of readers and writers- I credit the memory of Mr. Mason as the conduit!
