Thanks to Rick for the invitation to join. Have always been a big fan of James Mason's...particular favourites are Odd Man Out, North by Northwest and Spring and Port Wine. What a sterling, dependable actor he was. I live in the Uk and spend my time penning Sherlock Holmes pastiches which have the effect of keeping me out of mischief. Possibly. Connie Spittler (goodreadscomconniespittlercom) | 9 comments Hello, I'm Connie Spittler, a long time published author of nature essays, poetry, short stories, memoir. I'm excited to have just released my new novel "Powerball 33" on Amazon, print and ebook, about the meaning of money. Called by reviewers: "thought provoking, funny, poignant. Reads like a movie." About a nice guy who wins the lottery and goes on a crazy ride through sudden wealth. I've loved to read since grade school and enjoy all kinds of books. I especially appreciate readers. They make the best friends. One of my books "The Desert Eternal" was on the list of 2008 Southwest Book of the Year. So whether it's fiction or non-fiction, I'll be writing or reading it.
Happy New Year to all,
Connie Spittler

Jesse Cozean | 1 comments Hey Everyone,

I wanted to thank Rick for his invitation, and I'm looking forward to hearing about some good new books!

I'm a writer by profession and my first book, My Grandfather's War, was published almost a year ago now (doesn't seem possible). It's the combined story of my grandfather's time in World War II, when he was captured at the Battle of the Bulge, imprisoned in a Nazi POW camp, and liberated by the tanks of General Patton, and the time we spent together at the end of his life, after he underwent open-heart surgery and came to live with me as he recovered. My favorite, heart-stopping review called it a "Cross between Tuesdays with Morrie and Flags of our Fathers".

I love reading just about anything I can get my hands on, and with my book tour finally over I feel I can finally enjoy time with a few books again, so I'd love to hear people's suggestions and participate in the group. Thanks!

I am the author of two novels, DARK MOUNTAIN and CRY ME A RIVER. Both were published in 2013. Both are available for the Kindle and in paperback. CRY ME A RIVER is also available for the NOOK and the KOBO reading devices.

I look forward to learning more about the members, sharing stories and discussing books and writing.

I am an eclectic reader. I will read almost anything but erotica. Fantasy, Horror, Paranormal, Classic, Humor, Crime, etc.

I live in Oklahoma with my wife and four children. In addition to reading and writing, I enjoy fishing, walking, spending time with our children, and playing games. I am perhaps the biggest nerd in the tri-state area.

Kenneth Weene (kenweene) | 1 comments First, I want to thank Rick F. for the invitation to join this group. I'm an author and know him from LinkedIn. Recently I sent Rick a note about my latest short story publication (in the January edition of Empirical Magazine) In return, as I said, the invitation.

Besides writing, I co-host a BlogTalkRadio show. It Matters Radio is broadcast on Thursday evenings (9 EST and everywhere live via Internet). Of course you can also listen to the archived shows, but that's not as much fun, since you can't call in or take part in the chat room listening to an archive. We talk about all kinds of books, have some really great music, do some comedy, and try to focus on things that really do matter.

I guess I should tell you where you can learn more about me and my writing. http://www.kennethweene.com . Mostly my novels and stories are about life and the mix of comedy and tragedy that is so very human.

Glenn Cheney (glenncheney) | 8 comments Hello everybody, and thank you, Rick, for organizing this group.

i'm a full-time professional writer. I write all kinds of stuff: fiction, history, creative nonfiction, short stories, poems, travel books, political/controversial stuff, YA, humor, op-eds -- whatever happens to interest me.

I am looking for more reviews of several of my books, so I've set up a little website where Goodreads readers can get this book (and several others) at my cost plus a dollar for shipping. All I ask is that anyone who buys a book there write a review for Goodreads.

The webpage is http://cheneybooks.com/reviewers . There's a link to a different page where you can read free excerpts.

The books there are about the Pilgrims, Abraham Lincoln, Swaziland, a novel about a dude named Frankenstein, Chernobyl, and Brazil's Estrada Real. You can see a list of other titles and more information about me at my Author's page at Goodreads, or at cheneybooks.com .

Thanks for your interest in my books. I hope they bring you some contentment in this new year we have ahead of us.

Sincerely,

Glenn Alan Cheney
Hanover, Conn.

great anecdote William! Having read so much about James Mason, I really believe that he would have found it as amusing as we do! He was a man without any pretense.

David Goldwasser | 1 comments Hi Rick. Thanks for the opportunity...I am a first time author and my name is David Goldwasser...my book is titled Portals and is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iUniverse in hard cover, paperback and e reader versions.

Portals is a fantasy blended with real history. The protagonist is a young woman named Lissa who is dying from cancer. She and her father are pulled into a parallel universe filled with wizards, spell casters and other wonderful and evil entities.

This was a novel that I was supposed to write with my daughter when she graduated from Duke but life had other plans. Her sad and untimely death from cancer related therapies after beating cancer twice left me no choice but to write the book together in a different way. I am hoping to sell the second and third books to a large publishing concern if Portals generates enough sales.

A portion of every sale goes to The Marisa Fund, a charity we created to honor her memory. It is a dedicated 501(c) 3 that works tirelessly to help children with cancer and those who love them...

I'm author (so far) of five science fiction novels (three are actually science fiction/mystery) and eight nonfiction books about the history and future of media. In the past half year, I've put two of my novels - The Silk Code (first published in 1999) and The Plot to Save Socrates (first published in 2006) - up on Kindle, Nook, etc as "author's cuts" ebooks. I expect to the same with my other novels, and also some new novels I'm current writing as well.

Stanley Craig | 4 comments I am happy to find this group. I am a Stewardship Pastor, Executive Director of a non-profit and retired financial professional. My first book has taken 3 years to publication and distribution. It is a non-fiction guide to end-of-life planning.

When my younger brother died 41 days after being admitted to treat lung cancer, I was asked a number of questions I could not answer. I found no book to help me know what i needed. Then I found less than 30% of us have any knowledge of a durable power of attorney, DNR, AND or living wills, the right kind of attorney or planning a funeral or memorial service. So I wrote the book. Is is called ForeTalk; The 7 Critical Conversations for Living in the Season of Now.

Foretalk will be released Feb 15, 2013. It is a topic no one wants to read about or talk about yet 100% of us and our family will experience death. It is most often and unwelcome intruder. Huxley said, "Most Americans treat death as if it were an unfounded rumor."

I will keep you posted on how this goes.
