James Houston Turner (jameshoustonturner) | 2 comments G'day everyone. I live in Australia, and joined while in the throes of planning my 2011 USA promotional tour for Department Thirteen (voted the Best Thriller of 2011 by USA Book News). My wife then lost her oldest son, aged 36, to a heart attack, so my apologies for taking so long to introduce myself. I look forward to more involvement now that the sun is beginning to shine for us again. As a former smuggler behind the old Iron Curtain, I write suspense thrillers inspired by those experiences, with my latest novel, Greco's Game, coming out September 2012 (http://www.jameshoustonturner.com/boo.... Gale Martin Hello everyone. I'm Gale, which is an oft-misspelled name the way I spell it. I have three cats which is an unnatural number of felines. I am gaga for hummingbirds and would commit a misdemeanor to score a Babybel cheese. I have been a lifelong reader who only just turned to writing fiction about seven years ago. I love many kinds of books. It seems like my whole world revolves around books. So, I am happy to be here!

Victor Gibson (gryhpe) | 1 comments Hi, I was pleased to be asked to join this group, although I don't really know much about Goodreads,. or any groups within it. I did give away 20 copies of my sf book "RigMoves", and I suppose like others I'd like to see a few people buy it, or at least comment on it. I write a blog, I have a website devoted to ships supporting the oil industry and have written two technical books both of which have sold well. I have also written some plays some of which have been performed in Madrid where I live. It struck me that if we all bought each others books - those of us who are self published authors we would all be in the best seller lists.
So as they say in the share comment bulletin boards GLA - Good Luck All, and to those of you who have not yet written the best seller, but who are members here - get to it!!

message 4971: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 11 comments Hello Everyone!
I am thrilled about the invite to be part of this group. My name is Debbie Brown...no, not the cake artist (but you can probably find my book amongst hers now LOL) I am the author of Amethyst Eyes Amethyst Eyes by Debbie Brown
a YA sci-fi novel that has been out for a little over 6 months now. Although I have always loved writing, a personal tragedy grounded me,(literally) and gave me time to write. Going from 3 jobs (running a martial arts school and being part of the military included), mother of 4 kids,(the youngest just turning 4 next month)makes for a crazy life.
I have only been a part of Goodreads for a few months and have yet to finish adding my list of read books. I honestly believe there is no end to Goodreads, and I don't think it would be possible to test it's limits since there are only 24 hours in a day and we have to eat sometime.
I am blessed to have met so many amazing people over the past few months, authors, readers, bloggers and I am fortnate to now call some of these people 'friend'.
I knew nothing about publishing/marketing before I wrote my book...and I honestly believed that writing was my contribution to the process...yeah, going to need more coffee to make it through the flip side of writing ;o). BUT, I am learning, and I am more than willing to share what I've learned because there is so much involved and it can be scary to navigate this ocean alone.
I am not afraid to share my mistakes, in hopes someone can avoid the wasted efforts, and I am always up for a good discussion, sharing and learning as I go.

Debbie Brown

Cynthia Neale (cynthianeale) | 1 comments I'm finally getting around to responding to this invite. I'm trying to spend more time on the two or three sites out of the ten I'm a member of. Spending too much time on sites takes away the ability to fully engage in the creative process. I read two or three novels at a time, depending on my mood.Currently finishing up 'Abundance' by Jena Seter Naslund. I also read a lot of non-fiction and Celtic spirituality books. All the while, researching for my next novel, which is about a Native American woman living in the 1700s New York state. I hope to glean a little from this group and perhaps add some gleam...

Scott Miller (theusersguide) | 2 comments Hi Folks. What a terrific forum! I look forward to learning from and interacting with you.

I recently published my first two books—coincidentally within two weeks of each other. One was written twenty years ago called "The Barefoot Warrior: The Journey of a Young Adult in Search of His True Nature." It's a coming of age novel about a teen who sets out to take charge of his own education and life fulfillment. The second book was written during the last 6 years, entitled "The User's Guide to Being Human: The Art and Science of Self." It seeks to put people in touch with the extraordinary human capacities with which they were born, such as intelligence, willpower, mind, imagination, creativity, and so on.

I'm very happy to be a part of this community!

Scott

Barbara Rogan (barbararogan) | 33 comments Hi all. I've followed the footsteps of Victoria Strauss to this group, which looks like a great one for omnivorous readers. I'm the author of eight novels--the most recent is HINDSIGHT, published by Simon & Schuster---and a ninth will be out next spring with Viking. I also teach fiction writing in my own online Next Level Workshops and serve as a section leader on the Compuserve Books and Writers forum. For many years I was a literary agent, till I gave it up to pursue my own writing career. Looking forward to getting to know folks here and to getting comfortable on Goodreads.

Ruby Emam (goodreadscomruby_emam) | 93 comments Hi, everyone. My second book, a translation of Samad Behrangi's "24 Hours Between Dream & Reality" is now available on Kindle.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007XINRWU

An intriguing story for children, the book also has progressives in mind. It is about unemployment and the devastating impact it has on children. Many topics such as poverty, discrimination, child abuse, humiliation and homelessness are discussed and, as in all Behrangi's writings, there is a path to identify causes of those problems and find solutions for them.
