I knew there was something about Maven that he wasn't telling us, I just didn't know he would betray them. I could tell, however, that he was more powerful than he was leading us to believe.

When I started to read this book, I already got the hype about "the plot twist". So I was waiting for it, because of that, I can't trust any character. And my guess was to Maven. But he was so sweet and cute, that made me moved my sight to Cal.At first I thought the plot twist about betrayal is Cal that didn't choose Mare, then take her and Maven to King's chamber. But after that the REAL BETRAYAL happened and the ending is better plot twist than before.
So I think it obvious but I can't believe that really happened. LOL

He was so cute, sweet, lovely, and gave little brother feel. He was my fav until his betrayal ruin his entire character like i read a different character who has a same name.
I personally didn't see any of that coming. The first half of the book was too boring for me, but I insisted on reading anyway and it was worth it. I was completely surprised by this plot twist and I can't wait to read the next one. It's on my TBR
I'll be honest: I'm overly critical of books similar to this one (I only picked it up so I'd have something to read at the beach) and I sort of make a game out of guessing how it's going to end. Girl defeats insurmountable odds, gets the boy, so on and so forth. That said, I did NOT see this coming and I felt both offended and liberated by it.
I thought Cal was going to be the betrayer and Maven was going to be the secret lionheart of the story. It kind of pushed me back into my place as a reader and stopped me from trying to guess further.
Then again, though, I must just be less astute than the other readers

Like I loved Maven, I was team Maven all the way. And I'm one of the people that actually didn't see the plot twist coming at all. When it happend I was like WHHAAATTT I was so mindblown. I usually see stuff like that coming so I'm glad that I didn't this time. But the weird thing is that even if I really liked Maven I still liked the plot twist. I thought the betrayal and the plot twist made the book even better. I mean the betrayal was soooo gooood couldn't stop thinking about it after.

If that doesn't sig..."I didn't see that coming, I am very oblivious to many things and have always been to trusting so I never saw it coming . When the twist came I think I was in shock for a solid 20 minutes. Then I read the second book and was in shock again at the ending and now I have reread both and almost cried because of Maven. Now I can't wait for the third book...
I saw the twist coming but really hoped that it didn't happen because in my opinion it totally ruined the book. Any YA that has such an obvious twist is trying too hard. I thought it was an ok book, but I never really felt the need to read the others.
I'm both confused by the plot twist and the love triangle. Or, really, that people thought that either of them existed. I guessed that Cal was the end game as soon as he got the job for her in the kingdom and the twist of her being betrothed to Maven and not him. Forbidden love. Totally end game. Maven was jealous and resentful from the beginning. A lot of things didn't add up. The queen says in the end that Mare only got as far as she did because of her, because Mare was obvious, wasn't great a covering her tracks. I was thinking there's no way the queen doesn't know what's going on with all the obvious things Mare's done AND that the queen can read minds. And Maven insisted she'd be safe from that. And I'm like, you're not stupid, Maven, so you must be a liar. And there's foreshadowing and then there's downright giving it away. Any mistrust I had was solidified with: "Maven is his mother's son." So I knew whatever was "budding" between him and Mare wouldn't last. It never felt like a triangle to me. Not a true one anyway, because I knew there wouldn't be any real "choice" to make between the two when push came to shove.
Amazing writing..no doubt I was shocked at the plot twist of this book. It was not at all obvious for me atleast that Maven would betray them.
I feel like I'm a really stupid reader, because for me it wasn't obvious at all. It was clear, that there would be a plottwist, but I thought the big surprise was that Cal didn't choose Mare.
So I was really shocked xD
But I knew, that Shade is still alive.
I was quite surprised when I read the plot twist but when I thought about it it was quite logical that this happened. Furthermore, I liked this book but I felt like it missed something, like it was good but not really really good. I just finished Three Dark Crowns and I liked this book a lot better.

The plot twist wasn't really obvious to me. In fact, I was oblivious in till it happened. God, I'm so naïve.

oh yeah, me too!

I found the plot awesome, the characters were intriguing but there was something that made just feel meh. As for the plot twist in Red Queen, I kind of saw it coming but I was hoping I was wrong and that Victoria would take another twist

I also loved Maven, actually more than Cal, but of course, there was the whole betrayal thing. I can't say that I'm rooting for Mareven (Marecal forever) but I will say that I find his character quite interesting and would be sad if he got killed off soon. I'm excited to see how his character progresses after everything went down in the third book.
I was actually given spoilers about the plot twist before I even read the book, so i wasn't that surprised, but I'm pretty sure if I wasn't spoiled, I would've lost my mind.
I saw the plot twist with Shade coming from the moment his involvement with the Guard was mentioned so I was not at all shocked. I was completely blindsided by Maven though, but I did do it to myself. I chose to ignore some parts that made no sense and made them out to be bad plot writing rather than leading up to the twist. I really liked the friendship being developed between Maven and Mare. It was them against the world and Maven's desire for change and emotions all seemed genuine. I really wanted this to work out. It was painful to see him turn, and though I hated it and keep trying to deny it, it did make sense. I really want to reread this to actively look for the signs of him being evil in terms of his character's actions, emotions, and more, because I didn't catch them at all the first time around, if they were there.
The twist made sense in terms of plot, but not so much in terms of character to me. I don't think Maven as a heartless villain is completely realistic considering how perfectly he played the part of "good" Maven, but I hope this is part of an act he must uphold for his mother and we see his humanity shine through. I'm still rooting for him.
I thought she did really well with the plot twist. It wasn't in your face but it also wasn't very far fetched either. It didn't bother me that I knew what would happen.
