How to Get My Next Book, The Caballa, For Free

If you'd like a free copy of my next book (and by this I mean an actual, hold-it-in-your-hands physical book), then read on.

My next book, The Caballa, is almost done and I'm trying to do something a bit different with it in the hopes that I can draw more attention not only to it, but to my work in general.

On April 1, in concert with the book crowdsourcing website Inkshares, Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt of The Sword and Laser - a science fiction and fantasy webcast show - started a contest. Some of you will recognize the Sword and Laser from here on Goodreads. They have one of the largest book clubs here, over 20,000 strong.

All science fiction and fantasy books which initiated crowdsourcing campaigns on Inkshares on or after April 1 are eligible for this contest. At midnight on May 31, the five novels with the highest number of preorders will be given a publishing contract with Inkshares under the Sword and Laser collection imprint. From these five Veronica and Tom will select a favorite to be the imprint's 'debut' novel, and will do a video webcast interview with the author.

There are two different levels of preorders. For $9.99, Readers get a copy of the book and access to updates and drafts of the manuscript when that function is available. However, if this is your first visit to Inkshares, you will automatically receive a $5.00 credit just for signing up, which will bring your cost down to $4.99. And if you recommend the book (the Recommend button is just below the sample page), you get another $5.00 credit, which means you pretty much get the book for free. In any case, no one is charged unless the book is actually selected for publication.

For $29.99 (not counting any discounts) Super Readers get three copies of the book and will be listed by name in the back.

In order to be one of the contest winners, I have to place at least in the number five position. The current book in that spot on the Leader Board stood at 64 preorders the last time I checked.
