Was looking for first books yesterday and was having no luck with things being available via e-book at the library. My cousin posted this on her instagram and said "must read." I don't know her to be a reader so I figured I must read it. I googled it, and it just so happens to fit right into the slot I was trying to fill. I'll probably start reading within the next couple of days.

If you want to learn the intricacies of junkie life in the 50's, this book is for you. It really wasn't something that I was running back to, but it was as interesting as it can be for a tale about drug dealers and addicts. The reader gets a peak into an underworld of shooting up, prescription med hustling, arrest, detox, relapse -- all the joys and pains. Burroughs goes into good descriptions regarding what it feels like to crave a fix and be hooked, and I can still picture the comical cast of characters.
