Amanda | 27 comments Hello;

I read a book back in 2005 that was published somewhere between 1850-1900. The antique cover was green and it was about a woman's garden. If I remember correctly, the garden was full of beans and it became the woman's obsession, who died in the end.

I can't think of the title to save my life! Can anyone help me?

Thank you,
Amanda

Elizabeth and Her German Garden, maybe? First published in 1898.

Amanda | 27 comments It's interesting that you mention that, because I've listened to this book on Librivox and it was very similar to the book I'm thinking of. Though I remember this book in particular ending on a sad note, with more talk of beans.

To be fair, I was a teenager when I read it, so my memory may have become blurred. I also remember it being a short book.

Evelina's Garden, maybe? It looks like it might be a love story, but it's only 120 pages, so perhaps?

Amanda | 27 comments Haha I've listened to that one too on Librivox while searching for this particular garden book! I love Evelina's Garden. It's a beautiful story.

ha, sounds like I'm just recreating the searches you've already done, but here's one more long shot:

Miss Tiller's Vegetable Garden and the Money She Made by It, by Anna Bartlett Warner.

Amanda | 27 comments That sounds familiar. Do you have a synopsis? (I've searched and can't find a synopsis!)

No, but it looks like the whole thing can be read on Google Books:

Amanda | 27 comments Thank you! I skimmed it and it doesn't quite seem to be, but I'll just have to read it. Who knows, maybe the copy's packed away somewhere in some box. I'll have to keep an eye out.

No response in 2 years. Moving to Abandoned.

Amanda | 27 comments My apologies! I must have missed the notification of your question. Still haven't found it but the book linked above is a good lead. I'm okay with this staying in Abandoned. Thank you!

Capn | 3506 comments Hey Amanda - any sense of which country the book might have been set in? And I'm assuming it's not a non-fiction/biographic work, right?

I found this on Project Gutenberg:
https://www.gutenberg.org/files/3135/...
Summer in a Garden, Charles Dudley Warner

(not looking very likely upon closer examination!)

Amanda | 27 comments Thank you everyone for looking!!! It was Judith’s Garden, I confirmed by finding the green cover on Google Images, and that’s 100% what it is! THANK YOU!
