Where do you write

I write in my basement office, too, which is always cold as well.

I'm the same way. I can't always write in total darkness because my vision sucks and I don't want it to get worse, but I must have total isolation from the outside world.

I have a "woman-cave" that I created out of the spare bedroom -- though I usually call it my creative studio :). It has a desk, easel where I paint, shelves of my favorite books, film equipment, etc. I sit on a couch there with my laptop in the daytime.

My most productive writing time, however, is in the middle of the night, 1-4am. I love to write in bed in total darkness with my fiance snuggled on one side and my cats on the other. As someone else mentioned, he also wears an eyemask to block out the laptop light!

I wish I had a place to put a desk in my house that was just for my writing. As it is, my favorite place to write is at the Barnes and Noble down the street with a cappuccino or coffee. It usually helps me get momentum. That way once I'm back home, I continue writing in my bed, usually late at night.
