Spoilers Welcome!

Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Ok, so I'm actually only just over halfway through the book. Should finish listening to it tonight at work. But I had a question that I wanted to pose to everyone. Actually, I might end up asking this in a regular thread as well for the rest of the group, because this question doesn't just apply to this book. If Fate appears to be throwing two people together, do they have any real chance of fighting that? I mean, in this series, fate is trying it's hardest to get Keenan and Aislinn together. Personally, I've been glad that she's been fighting it. But is it innevitable? I can think of numerous series were "fate" says that two people belong together. And usually they don't fight it, even if they don't even like each other to start with. So, what do you think? Should Aislinn continue to fight fate? Should she do anything that she has to in order to be with Seth? Or is fate just too strong, and the outcome is inevitable?

Just a thought and I was wondering what others thought about that.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments My first thought when reading this series is that she would fight being with Keenan until Seth was gone, but this book changes things for Seth. So I am not sure what she will do.

I do hope that she keeps fighting what fate wants with Keenan. I really don't like him. It seems like all the "girls" before her whether they were summer or winter were disposable to him, but since she is the Summer Queen that is the only reason why she matters. He still makes choices that are good for him or if he thinks he will look better in Aislinn's eyes, not because it is the right thing to do, which is what Seth does.

It will be interesting to see what way things fall.

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I agree. He does act like they are all disposable to him! I mean, when he was having the Conversation with Donia (sorry, not sure how to spell her name), he kept saying that they could be together for now, but made sure that she knew that as soon as Aislinn was available, he would drop her for Aislinn! How crazy and selfish! I know that he is doing what he thinks is best for his court, but he never really thinks about the people that he is hurting!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Well, as I don't tend to believe in fate, I don't believe Aislinn is irrevocably linked to Keenan - at least not to the degree where a romance is unavoidable. The road ahead for her and Seth wasn't easy before, but won't be made an easier now that he's been "adopted". However, I think they will find a way to work it out. I will be gutted if I'm wrong and she ends up with Keenan, as I really don't care for him. =/

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I agree! I really hope that she doesn't end up with Keenan! And I am right there with you about the whole fate thing. I don't tend to believe in it either. That's one of the main things that's drawn me to this series. It sometimes bothers me that so many other series have plot points where "fate" tells you this is the person that you are supposed to be with, and you don't really have any choice in the situation.

As for Aislinn and Seth, I'm not sure if the situation is now going to be easier or harder, or maybe just as hard, just different problems now.

message 7: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I am not sure how this would happen, but I would love to see some reason for the magic to change and Keenan would end up on the outside of the "world" and the rest of them would end up merging their courts and just being happy doing what they want. Of course this would be the end of the series and I sure don't want that to happen, but I do think that would be great justice to Keenan, and give everyone else (Niall, Donia, etc) a chance to be happy.

Honestly, I think that Keenan will have to die for Aislinn to ever be completely free of him. I expect that to happen at some point.

message 9: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Well, I'm kinda wondering if the ending of the book is setting things up that Keenan and Seth will end up fighting. Earlier in the book, Niall mentioned that Keenan never learned how to fight, because he always had other people around to do it for him. And then at the end of the book Seth asks Niall if he can train to fight with them. I know that at the moment Keenan probably isn't his focus, but it could easily shift to that!

Also, I loved Donia's comment to Keenan that he had better hope that the other rulers were more kind to him than he had been to them! Loved that!

message 10: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments So, question for everyone. If you were in love with someone, which would you rather have: Everday with them, but for only a finite number of years, or 6 months of each year with them, but possibly for hunderds or thousands of years?

Personally, I'd rather have the 6 months. Yes, it'd be extremely hard to be away from them each year for that long, but at least you'd always know that the time away will end and you'll see each other again. If you only had a handful of years to be together, once it's over, it's over! I really hope that wants Aislinn calms down a bit, and stops freaking out about Seth now being a Fae, that she'll realize that things can be a whole lot better this way than the way things were going before!

Just a thought!

message 11: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I agree with you, much rather have endless limited time that straight up limited time.

message 12: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) And really on the political side of things, Aislinn can use the High Queens love for Seth as a bargaining chip for an alliance if the time arises that that is needed. Does that make sense?

message 13: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Yeah, it does. I mean, what's the likelyhood that The High Queen would ever attack the Summer Court while Seth and Aislinn are dating?

message 14: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) exactly :D plus, her sister is trying to destroy them so...the high queen HAS to help them.

im kind of mad that radiant shadows is another companion novel D: i wanted a continuation not more characters and another novel like ink exchange.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments I know what you're saying Kyle, although Ink Exchange was fine with me because Niall was a main character, one we were already really familiar with. But Radiant Shadows's Ani was just a periphery character before and we've never met Devlin. But that being said, I'm still looking forward to it.
