HAHAHA!!! You guys are SO SILLY, I love it!!

Harlee | 1583 comments Ha! Good idea! I'll have to find a flashlight...

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments My overhead reading lamp will be ready. As will my fluffy blankets and hot cocoa.

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Alright guys. Almost time for me. >8C

Harlee | 1583 comments I...kind of already started. I COULDN'T RESIST! :D I'm 23 pages in. Already I have encountered a NASTY little surprise! *shudders*

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Harlee wrote: "I...kind of already started. I COULDN'T RESIST! :D I'm 23 pages in. Already I have encountered a NASTY little surprise! *shudders*"

Oh boy. I gotta get a jump on it!

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I'm starting it now... I'm even having a horror movie play in the background because I can.

Harlee | 1583 comments I'm stopping at page 48 for the night. The writing is a bit dense to me, but I'm very intrigued already!

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I'm currently on page 48 and stopping to write some. I'll probably read a chapter or two before bed. I agree, it's a bit dense, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit already.

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Made it to chapter 48 as well, would've read more (and earlier then the time that this was posted) but had a splitting headache. Just as creepy as I remember the first chapters being.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I read a bit further(maybe page 80-ish) and am getting sucked in. I don't even know what happened between 48 and where I stopped that made me enjoy it more, but it definitely happened.

Harlee | 1583 comments I'm hoping to get back into it tonight. :)

YES! Just you wait, it gets better and better with each page and each book. So deliciously creepy and yet humorous. Glad you all are getting into it!

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I'm enjoying it so far, Will Henry's a likable character.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments His little hat haha

Harlee | 1583 comments I feel so bad for him, I just want to hug him and never let go!

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I've got a sinking suspicion/fear that by the end of the book we're all gonna want to hug him even tighter.

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Hugs for him will be imminent I'm sure.

I LOVED Will Henry, and actually, The Monstrumologist, too. Their relationship is so interesting, and LOL funny, but at the same time, so touching at times...it kind of reminded me of a much darker version of the relationship between Daniel and Miyagi in The Karate Kid :)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I didn't get home from work until after 230am and had to do some writing, so I didn't read much. Stopped after page 101.

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 787 comments Yay!!! This series was soo good. So glad y'all r enjoying it. Wish it as reading it for the first time with y'all :)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments XD; I'll admit I only read a few pages today of it so far.

Harlee | 1583 comments I stopped at 98 last night. I kind of like how eccentric the doctor is haha.

Its very entertaining, Harlee!

There is a conversation between him and Will in the beginning of the second book that had me in STICHES! Warthrop is annoyed by Will calling him "sir" every other sentence, and it goes on for pages...its HILARIOUS!! I think each book got better and better for me, except maybe the last book, which I still loved, but is so different from the rest of the series.

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 787 comments I agree Jenny completely. It was the same for me too

Harlee | 1583 comments Barely a hundred pages in and I'm already wondering if I should order the next one lol!

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 787 comments Yes u should!!!!

Harlee | 1583 comments I'm on page 120. Not sure if it's because I'm sick and tired but I'm having trouble staying focused on this tonight. This is one of those books I'm having trouble reading too much of in one sitting it seems. But I AM liking it! It reminds me of Frankenstein in how it's written. And I seriously just want to hug Will Henry forever and ever. Poor thing.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I'm glad you guys are going slow because I got hit with two busy days haha. I'l for sure hit chapter 7 today(which is page 170-ish I think) but I don't know how much more.

And I agree, I'm really liking it, but it's not grabbing me and forcing me to run through it yet, which is odd, because I am really into it while reading it.

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I am too but I'm still on page 50... XD; I just haven't hit my zone yet. I'm taking my time and enjoying it. I'm gonna get there but... I dunno. Feels like a book you have to take in slowly ya know?

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments Storm wrote: "I am too but I'm still on page 50... XD; I just haven't hit my zone yet. I'm taking my time and enjoying it. I'm gonna get there but... I dunno. Feels like a book you have to take in slowly ya know?"

Yeah, so far I agree with that.

Plus...It's that first time feeling. It won't feel the same after that.

Harlee | 1583 comments I've kind of hit "the wall" with this but I'm gonna try and push further into it now! :)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Harlee wrote: "I've kind of hit "the wall" with this but I'm gonna try and push further into it now! :)"

XD; I got distracted... I'll try to read some before I go to bed tonight.

Harlee | 1583 comments Finally finished chapter six, that was a long one. Good Lord that was bone chilling and gut churning! Part of me wonders if that'll give me nightmares tonight.

LOL I told youuuu! These are not your typical monsters under the bed :P

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I'm now on chapter 8, which I'll finish tonight. I'm pretty equal parts chilled, shocked with the gore, and starting to really love these 2 characters.

message 89: by Tommy (last edited May 12, 2015 02:52AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments DUDE! Okay, I'm nearing the end of chapter 8 and have already decided that this book is gonna be at least 4 stars. I'm seriously just sold. And it was just a few words of dialogue(within the setting of the narration, obviously,) that got me (*don't read spoiler until you pass chapter 8*)(view spoiler)

P.S. this is only my second buddy read, but this is the first time I had to stop reading mid-paragraph to share how moved I was haha.

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments ... Sleep is for chumps. Reading time.

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 787 comments OK y'all totally make me want to read this series again!!!! Just love it!!!!

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I'm now on chapter 11(folio 3).

While I appreciate the gore and do think it makes the book stand out, I think it's when the book pulls back from that and focuses on the characters that I really get sucked into the story.

I can officially say I'm loving it. If not for the fact that I'm leaving to watch the Avengers, I'd probably sit and finish it by tonight.

Harlee | 1583 comments I'm somewhere in chapter eight. I'm pretty impressed with the gore! I get the feeling and I'm hoping Malachi has a bigger role in this story.

Harlee | 1583 comments Tommy wrote: "DUDE! Okay, I'm nearing the end of chapter 8 and have already decided that this book is gonna be at least 4 stars. I'm seriously just sold. And it was just a few words of dialogue(within the settin..."

So touching. Especially between two people who are practically still children.

Harlee | 1583 comments Just finished chapter eight. I'm gonna try to either read all of chapter nine or at least some of it before I go to sleep. :)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Getting further in not to eight yet but getting there. Got curious because my mind couldn't seem to make up it's own mind what the Anthromorphagi looked like... So I did a google search... Found this if anyone's interested... It also has a tiny Will Henry...

Freaky Storm!!

Harlee | 1583 comments I definitely Googled the monster in the beginning to find pictures and how to pronounce it's name lol! I got sucked into checking out deviant art just now, so cool!

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I know right? It's awesome!

I'm really enjoying this book I'm on chapter 5 right now and... I'm now understanding why it used to get advertised in the back of my Neal Shusterman books. The way Yancey writes reminds me of him. In a really great way in that it just sucks you in.

Glad you're all enjoying it! And I completely agree with you, Tommy, the balance between the extremes (the violence and gore vs the soft, tender, meaningful moments) is what makes these books special. The laugh-out-loud exchanges between them really helps too!
