In An Echo in the Bone, Claire is reading to Jamie about a substance that should not be put on head wounds because it would dissolve sutures. What is the substance called in the book and what is it's normal usage?

We will leave it for a little while incase someone wants to try the answer. But then I'll give you the answer if you want.
They must be Sue! Tackled a bit myself. Got a little overwhelmed so I came home. lol I would have taken a guess but I had no idea! ;D
Correct Wendy. Wasn't it sad when Jamie cried because he thought they had eaten him. And so relieved when he heard he went with the Bonny Prince!
LOL, I did think that was sad. Though I hated that the Charles got to keep that magnificint animal! In the same vein, what is the name of the Mule on the ridge?
I realize it's Jen's turn, but she must be busy with the season so I'll give a question just to keep the game going, but Jen's turn when she comes back to visit. What did Claire tell Jamie after they come out of the Hot Springs at the Abbey while sitting on the landing of the stairs with the view of a "Christmas Moon" shining in the window?
That she has a gift/present for him...which ofcourse means she was pregnant...only at that time she was pregnant with Faith.
When Claire decided to stay with jamie in Outlander what did she tell him it was a toss up between (something that's in the 20th century but not in the 18th century) and staying with Jamie?
Oh my gosh, sorry guys! I totally forgot it was my turn for a question! I've been slammed at work and after work stuff getting ready for the holidays! Here goes my question:
What is the significance of Joe Abernathy's last name in the Outlander canon? Also, what is the significance of Joe's son, Lenny, assuming the name Ishmael?
well..Joe's son took the name Ishamel back from his heritage...I think...he felt an outcast...I think Joe Abernathy is related to Geillis...through marriage...somewhere...when she was living in the Caribbean? I think...I hope!
I don't think that it's ever made clear whether Geillis was related to Joe or not. But she was married to a man named Abernathy, and slaves in those days took the last name of their owners. Doesn't Claire meet a slave (on the plantation) who reminds her of Joe?
yeah I always wondered why Geillis had the last name of Abernathy and there was a man that reminded Claire of Joe. So it would not surprise me if Joe is related to Geillis.
