Sharon, Grace and Annie witness the shooting of Harold and Jean and all three have identical reactions without uttering a word. Was this instinctive or is this because of their training? Was it understandable that they left their purses behind?

I think it is a little bit of both and experience from the first novel. I would have left everything behind too especially if none of it was helping their situation.

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments Their purses were probably the last thing on their mind when they witnessed the killings.

I can't imagine what would go through my mind if I suddenly saw what I believed to be law enforcement mow down two people like this. I was impressed that they all instinctively, and quietly got the hell out of there. Just don't know if I'd have left my purse behind. It's second nature for me to grab it.

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments I agree that it was a bit of both. They knew they had to be quiet or they may have been the next ones killed. I'm torn on the purse question. Like Jonetta, it's second nature for me to grab mine, but then again, they needed to get away fast and the purses would have been something else for them to keep up with and try to handle.

Or at least thought about a cell phone.

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments Would survival instinct have kicked in and would they have just wanted to get out of there?

As soon as those shots were fired, they just MOVED! If it didn't occur to Grace, it wasn't going to happen for the others.
