I bet that is frustration. For a moment last night I thought I was done with The Protector...until I realized I had forgotten a scene, now I have to go and add that. Plus it lacks a lot of description and depth. Right now it is just a shell of a story.

message 6: by TW (new)

TW (twwwwwwwwwright) | 7 comments It is.:/ but right now I think catching up on school is slightly more important than writing so I do writing in my spare time :/

Mary (literarypiesociety) TW wrote: "It is.:/ but right now I think catching up on school is slightly more important than writing so I do writing in my spare time :/" Yes! I probably should be more focused on my school work....but I am not. I am unashamed, at the moment. :P

message 8: by Ana (new)

Ana | 8 comments Mary, keep working on that shell of a story! I am currently rewriting my sci-fi novel from scratch for Camp NaNoWriMo (I miraculously only have 7k to go until I reach 50k) because the first version I wrote lacked so much depth. And I still think it will need a ton of work. I guess that's how all stories go. All that hard work makes up for itself in the end, though.

TW, school is tough. I've been going through a vicious cycle of multiple tests and quizzes every week for this whole school year, and it's really sucking up a lot of my writing time. The good side is that it's taught me how to be more productive.

Thanks for the encouragement!
I am rewriting this novel from scratch too, for Camp, and I am like four days behind my wcg.

You can do it! Just try not to think about how behind you are because that usually decreases my productivity.

And besides, four days isn't too far so you still have time to get to your word count goal.

I try not to think about it, and doing word wars everyday helps me write more and faster. So hopefully I will catch up soon.

Firefly (fireflys12) | 20 comments I'm currently working on an untitled story... still trying to think of a name for it. I've got a lot of it already outlined, but I'm only just beginning, so I have a long way to go.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm currently working on a sci-fi story, and I'm worried it's too blah.

Mary (literarypiesociety) Ashlee wrote: "I'm currently working on a sci-fi story, and I'm worried it's too blah."
That's why we having editing. First drafts are just to get the idea and characters on paper. The later drafts are for developing the idea and characters, turning them into epicness. :D Keep writing, your novel will never get better if you just stop writing.

message 16: by Bekah (new)

Bekah Ward (bekahward) I'm working on a contemporary YA, but the plot is getting complicated and it's hard to keep track of in my head xD

Complex plots are the best!

message 18: by Emmy (new)

Emmy | 8 comments I'm working on two. One is a YA horror short story which is sorta failing XD the other is just a contemporary piece.

Mary (literarypiesociety) Emmy wrote: "I'm working on two. One is a YA horror short story which is sorta failing XD the other is just a contemporary piece."
I don't know how people can write horror stories, much less read them. The scariest thing, or rather the book I have read that I found the scariest was The Hounds of Baskerville.

message 20: by Emmy (new)

Emmy | 8 comments Mary- ya! I used to be soooo freaked out of horror, but it grew on me. I love the adrenaline :)

message 21: by Emmy (new)

Emmy | 8 comments Also, this is one of my first groups, so how to I like reply to people where it says like "Emmy wrote" and is in kind of an italic font?

Firefly (fireflys12) | 20 comments Emmy wrote: "Also, this is one of my first groups, so how to I like reply to people where it says like "Emmy wrote" and is in kind of an italic font?"

On the bottom right hand corner of a comment there is a little thing that says "reply". So you can reply to that comment and it will put what they said in italics... does that make sense? Sorry if it doesn't....

message 23: by Emmy (new)

Emmy | 8 comments Fireflys12- hmmm. Thank for the help but I don't see that button :(

I'm currently writing a Fantasy, and it's going great so far- still stuck on a title though...

message 30: by Mary (new)

Mary (literarypiesociety) I am terrible at coming up with titles. :P

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Mary wrote: "I am terrible at coming up with titles. :P"
Same! For some reason it feels like the hardest part.

message 32: by Anna (new)

Anna In an odd way, my title just came to me!

message 33: by Sierra (new)

Sierra | 22 comments I'm writing a fantasy series with lots of worlds and people who can travel to other worlds, and a big conspiracy. I think it'll be 5 books, but it might end up being only 4. The title I'm tentatively tossing around for the series is Peacekeepers, but I'm not sure.
Other than that, I'm doing a lot of flash fiction. I might do a book of flash fiction stories someday, but I need to write a LOT more first :)

message 34: by Mary (new)

Mary (literarypiesociety) Cool!
It seems to me that a lot of teen writers are writing Fantasy. At lest a lot of teen writers that I have talked to have been writing fantasy.

message 35: by Susanna (new)

Susanna Olson (weatherenthusiast) | 9 comments I'm doing a fantasy too. Although, I've never been much of a fantasy person so I have no idea where the inspiration came from. I'll need lots of advice : )

I am also working on a historical fiction. I have a finished first draft! Here is the the teaser, lemme know what you think:

Lyddie has been an enslaved peasant her whole life, yet her imagination is strong enough to dream of something more. Some days she is a beautiful lord's daughters, while others she saves the land as a noble princess. Yet in reality Lyddie is just an orphan working in the fields and avoiding the nosey town gossip. She doubts life could be anything more.

That is until a horrible disease closes in on her village, forcing Lyddie to flee the life of her ancestors with nothing but a stubborn pig to keep her company. Along her journey to survive she discovers an abandoned castle where she meets a diverse cast of folks trying to escape the dreaded disease: a baker’s wife and daughter attempting to run the castle while their lord is gone, a monk’s son fleeing from a tour of vicious flagellants, a proud but unlucky minstrel honing his musical skills, and a Jewish peddler attempting to right past wrongs in London despite deathly prejudices.

Lyddie must find courage to face one of history's greatest disasters by forging a new family with her strange company of friends. In a terrible time when many thought the world was ending and every certainty was turned on its head, Lyddie begins to wonder if anything, even her craziest dreams, could somehow become possible if she can only manage to survive.

message 38: by Sierra (new)

Sierra | 22 comments :)
okay, so I had this idea the other day, and I'd like to hear you guys's opinions of it.
It would be a Rumplestiltskin retelling. The king declares that whoever can spin straw into gold (or some other equally impossible task that would get the king gold) can marry the prince. But the prince doesn't like that, because he loves a girl from the village. When he learns that the girl is one of those competing, he disguises himself and helps her. He wont tell her his name, but he says that if she guesses it correctly, he will tell her if she is right.
That's a very basic summary of it, there are a lot more details in my head. What do you think?

message 39: by Mary (new)

Mary (literarypiesociety) Oh, cool, that sound really interesting. I love fairytale retailing, but I have never read one of Rumplestiltskin. You should most defiantly try and write this!

LOVE IT. I think fairytale retellings are wonderful, but I too have never heard of a rumpelstiltskin one. I think that story deserves a bit more love. Go for it!
