Did you know it's not just DMs that are being removed? GR is also removing the ability to post external links and images.

Many of us have tried to get clarification from GR Support as to which messages will have them removed. Their responses seem to suggest we will no longer be able to post external links and images in groups. But their answers aren't clear enough to be 100% sure.

Here are my latest attempts:

If you are going to enter a URL, even in plain text, the system will still recognize this as an external link so you will not be able to add this.

Goodreads is owned by Amazon. It's not their cash-cow.

I still think it's incredibly important to make our feelings known though. Members have come together in previous years to push back on changes, we need to do so again!

My guess? They most likely turned off msgs after the first few msgs received. Again, the emails that are listed above, are the emails my msgs were sent to, when this delivery failure notice came through.

Okay, Beige.. I'll send it to the direct secondary link you provided.. You can also send your emails to the GR acct that sent out the msg that DMs were going away.. At least you were able to the other day. I sent an email directly to that account as well and it went through.

we need to share the petition more. if you haven't already post in your groups, share it in a poll and invite all your friends, etc. it just keeps circling in the same group of people and isn't actually reaching the rest of the users

i already tried contacting them a few days ago and i havent heard. i think i might try and post something about this on pinterest. surely if someone has pinterest they also have goodreads?

I'm not active on any other social media, but I've posted links to this group and the petition in a few of the larger goodreads groups that I'm a member of, including the GR Librarians Group and the Moderators Support Group.

I've posted everywhere that I'm a member/mod here, as well as on my public updates on the homepage. Hubby has done so as well, and he also sent the petition link to some of his employees to go sign it as well. We've both been sending emails to GR every few days too.. We also post on others statuses who have made status updates about it.

I've just sent a help ticket.
I've emailed all my GR friends with my actual email address.
I've shared the word on LibraryThing (my only other social media site.)
I'm trying to help others cope by reminding them their experience on GR was built by them. It's sad, no doubt. But they and all their friends should try to decide on a refugee home, just in case.

I've signed and shared the petition (I'm about to make another status update, just in case it was missed by people). I also filled out the "contact us" form and wrote 3 paragraphs asking gr to keep dms.

here's a suggestion i have: if you have a library near you, talk to employees about this. i'm sure a good amount of them use Goodreads or know people who do. tell them about the petition and ask them if they'd be willing to spread the word about the issue. this could potentially help reach lots more people. at least, hopefully

if you make a status update that you like, you can keep liking, unliking, and reliking it so it appears in people's update feeds. but yeah it's also really important to share it with new people outside of those you already know
