Lou (louiseem) | 6 comments That's true tho. I've seen so many people I've chatted with in the past, suddenly not accepting DMs. But I also know there are many options around DMs that people can do, like simply not responding or blocking even.

YES, it is easy to block so that should be the solution. However, goodreads made me super sad before when they took down the Neverending quiz. They seem to be bent on destroying things.

KarensKael | 5 comments No siree bob! As many others have said, DMs are a good way to communicate when one doesn't just want to leave a comment on someone's review or in a group. I've made some wonderful friends after DMing someone after seeing one of their reviews.

I don't think GR/Amazon will listen or care, but it is heartwarming to see so many people agree on the topic of DMs.

Meghan Loves M/M (mm_reads) | 3 comments Just agreeing with most folks here and adding

- DM functionality is really important for mods trying to vet new members to private groups. Also, important for moderators working with co-moderators.
- it should be easier to Block and Report harassment rather than punishing people who are trying to make personal connections through a social reading platform.
- finally, pervs and creeps are just as willing to harass en masse as they are one-on-one.

June | 1 comments I do not like that the direct messaging feature is being taken away, and glad to read these comments on it.

Phil Davis (livepauhanacom) | 5 comments I find it interesting that Facebook and X, et al can shut an individual down when they cross the line, but GR shuts down the whole system.
There has to be more here.

Agreed. The more here is the fact that they simply want to kill community interaction and engagement. When they are done getting their way, this website will either be shut down completely or look exactly how amazon looks.

My wife has said plenty of times, that their next steps will be removing the comments feature on our reviews, possibly even book updates and general status updates. Finally they will move to restricting what we place in our reviews and how quickly our reviews will be able to be posted to the platform. Just like they do with amazon.com.

I am honestly waiting on when they remove groups from this site as well. I am sure this is coming soon.
