Messaging on Goodreads

I just saw this and agree. Carol and I communicate regularly through messaging to coordinate for the group. Goodreads seems determined to make it’s site as user unfriendly as possible.-heavy sigh
Losing DMs makes it difficult to make new friends and keep up with old ones. I am averse to publishing my email or mobile # in a group update, but fine with sharing it via DM. I read in another group that they'll make this change some time this month, so I guess the clock is ticking to share you contact information via DM with current friends. It also makes it difficult just to have private conversations about health information, other GR friends' situations, how to respond to the rare online kerfuffle. People are setting up new groups with 2 - 3 members as a way to avoid broadly public comms, but that could become unwieldy quickly if "real" group notifications get pushed down further because of tiny group, "how's your day?" exchanges.
They say they're trying to combat spam, but golly baby with the bathwater, guys.
I responded to their message telling them what I thought. I don't expect any response but maybe we all need to flood them with responses.
i've been hearing a lot about this today! there is a petition for this, and if you search in the groups bar there are also a couple groups people made to push backhttps://www.change.org/p/urge-goodrea...
Agree with all Carol's points and I like the action ideas from Gail and Sai. Signed the petition to start. I'll do a reply message like Gail and use Carol's points as a guideline in what to say...
There may be good news, friends. In another of the many threads with outraged users (including me), someone said, they're just removing DMs from the app, e.g., nothing will change in the desktop version. If that's the case, then there's no crisis and we can all go about our day/s undisturbed. But the emails I've gotten from the GR support team don't limit the change to the app, so ...
I received a message from a mod in a different group and am stealing her sentence for this update:"If you would like my email address, please message me now with yours, while you can, and I will send you mine. I promise to keep yours private, as I ask you to do with mine. You might never use it, nor I, but it will be there as a safeguard."

"Changes to Messaging on Goodreads
message: Hello Goodreads Member,
In the coming weeks, we will be making some updates to how messaging works on Goodreads.
What's Changing?
• Direct messages between individual members will no longer be available
• Images and external links will no longer be supported in messages
While direct messages between individual members are no longer available, you can still access your past messages from your inbox, Group moderators can still send broadcast messages to their group members, and you can still send group invitations to your Goodreads friends. All other public interactions, such as writing and responding to book reviews, remains unchanged.
