Michelle Adamo #EmptyNestReader (michelleadamoemptynestreader) | 2 comments the GR page for William Kent Kruger's Apostle's Cove page lists the book as # 20 in the series. This is incorrect. The CORRECT number is 21. A quote from the author's web page: "In Apostle’s Cove, the twenty-first book in my series, I take readers back in time more than two decades, to Cork’s first murder investigation as..."

The reason the Goodreads page shows Apostle’s Cove as number 20 is because this particular series page is set up in chronological order. On Goodreads the full-length prequel Lightning Strike is treated as book 0, so everything after it shifts by one number. That is why the number here does not match the quote from the author, or the author's official site or Amazon page.

In publication order/reading order, Lightning Strike is listed as book 18. When you follow that order, Apostle’s Cove becomes book 21, which matches the author’s statement.

There is a note on the series page explaining that the numbering must follow the Goodreads guideline for prequels. If readers want to see publication order instead of the current numbering, an alternate series can be created to show that order. Both systems can exist: this one for chronology, and another for publication order.

Author's official site with series order: https://williamkentkrueger.com/books/

Amazon [follows same order]: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091PR8Z5W

I do wonder which one we should set as primary. I tend to prefer publication order, but that is a personal preference. If other librarians see this, feel free to chime in.
