For me, LOTR has inspired me the most. The way Tolkien brought Middle-earth to life will always resonate with me. Another big one is The Inheritance Cycle. It was one of the first epic fantasies I ever read, and it stood out from other fantasies.

Definitely Dune! The multitude of planets, the intricacy of the cultures and the way I can just lose myself in Herbert's universe. The first novel of my series spends a lot of time with the protagonist growing up on earth, but only so that I can identify with him as I journey out into the universe. Then there's Asimov - Caves of Steel which lets me fuse together science fiction and murder mystery.
And J.D. Salinger who permits me to choose my own style of writing.
Well that's three to start with!
I can feel the influences of LOTR and Thomas Covenant buzzing in me too, but that will be for the upcoming fantasy series, not the current science fiction series.

I'll admit, I've never read Caves of Steel, but I just looked it up, and think I might add it to my TBR.
Thanks for sharing, Richard!
that’s very hard to decide, there were so many books that inspires my writing. The thing that inspires my writing the most isnt books, its poetry, so my favorite poem is either the hangman or the mask

Thanks for sharing, Ava!
