MHTomas | 7 comments Hi all — quick question from a writer testing a scene: if a story gives the protagonist one impossible choice — betray a friend or lose everything they love — which would pull you in more as a reader: (A) a knife-in-the-dark betrayal, or (B) a slow, heart-breaking sacrifice?

I’m finishing a book in mystery fantasy and I’m stuck on which version feels more honest. If you’ve read anything recently that handled that well, I’d love recommendations — and if you want a short (2-page) peek at how I handle it, DM me and I’ll send a sample. No pressure, just curious what readers think.

Thanks so much for your thoughts! I’m leaning that way too
