I liked Frederick a lot. I liked how close to reality the various endings were.
I wished for Werner and Marie and her father a better ending but that's not how war is.
The writing was great and I'm amazed what great job Doerr did by writing from a POV of a blind protagonist.
The ways the horrors of war are presented to the reader are subtle but at the same time leave a formating impression.
I wish more characters were introduced. Somehow I missed the futility and heaviness of war in the atmosphere. Maybe it's due to the main characters youth. Children are not really able to comprehend what happens and what their actions may lead to.
All in all it was an enjoyable read. It was worth the time!
