ksr | 19 comments heyy, uhmm i was wondering if there is anyone here who is either in uni or going into uni like 2026-2027, if so, how is it that you are planning on paying? i hope this is not too personal, i was just considering my options and wanted to get some outside opinions. I'm currently looking for scholarships and pell grants, but if that doesn't work, I'm probably going to go to CC, so I'd love to know what you guys are doing!! thanks

AbigailElizabeth | 100 comments i'm planning on going to a uni either in the fall of 26 or 27 (since i graduate may of 2026). and since i'm homeschooled, i can't get a scholarship or anything like that, so i'm planning on it off myself. i think i'm gonna go with a gap year, tho, so that way i can work my butt off for a year to help with cost. hope this helps in any way!

Kailee | 43 comments I️ have been in college for three years, community for 2 1/2 and university for 1/2, now and I’m on track to finish by early 2028. It has been super hard for me because I was working two full time jobs that first year ish but now I’m in the field I’m planning on going into. I’ve been paying out of pocket and getting some financial aid when it’s been available. I️ would say to apply for as many scholarships as possible even if you don’t think you can get them. Also, make sure that when you sign up for classes to either drop them before the deadline or work really hard to finish them out. Of course stuff happens and you may fail a class or two but try with all your might to not, they can and will fuck your GPA, transcripts, and ability to get financial aid.

Kailee | 43 comments Community colleges are totally underrated and do not make you less than someone who went to a four year!!

Ophelia (Matching with Savannah!) (Happy Holidays) | 332 comments I agree with Kailee! They’re also cheaper!
I’m going to be a certified phlebotomist for just $450!

Kailee | 43 comments Plus if you’re not sure what you want to go into, CCs are great for trying a bunch of different courses that will give you a general idea of what jobs you may be interested in.

Kate Austin Payne (kateaustinpayne) | 4 comments it will likely be cheapest in your home state and there may be sizable merit scholarships or needs-based extra scholarships available to you as well; don't be afraid to reach out to schools and ask what your options may be!

College student who was homeschooled here--just so you know, homeschooling definitely doesn't slam the door for all scholarships!! reach out to your target schools and ask what your options are; you may be surprised! I chose a small private college and received a merit scholarship based on my homeschool grades (Your parents can make you a transcript that will be accepted, and there are templates online to consider if they don't already have that part handled!). There are also online open-application scholarships, and while you have to use some discernment to make sure they're legit, the good ones can be really good--I got a $5,000 outside scholarship as a homeschool grad off a single essay once. Definitely check out your options as you get closer to graduation, good luck girl:)

ksr | 19 comments heyyy guys I just want to thank you for all the advice. It never fails to surprise me how many people are or were homeschoolers in this group. Its great having some people with first hand experience around.
