actually I found it just after posting this. a Galaxy Unknown by Thomas Deprima
Female lead who graduates from an academy and is posted to a ship that she doesn't like. She is thinking of resigning. Her ship explodes. She makes it to a life boat but the explosion damages the life boat and propels her on a heading that means she's not found. She choses to go into stasis. Her life pod is eventually picked up (years later). She's picked up by a commercial ship that is attacked by pirates. She ends up commanding the ship in the battle.
She eventually makes it back and into the space force. In later books she progresses through the ranks and commands ships in battle and space stations.
In a later novel she is cloned multiple times due to alien technology. She calls her clones her sisters and they have all of her memories. The rest of the books in the series include her sisters, but she is the main character.
