One of the most fanciful of living authors has, in this novel, created out of an actual experience a story of a peculiarly diverting sort. It involves Jimmy and Laura, two young visitors from England to a French city, who, charmed by the strangeness of their environment, are so sympathetic to it that the barriers between reality and limbo are quite broken down. Taking part, as they think, in a small local fair, they actually move among the people of a Land of Dreams.
A lovely, merry-hearted, enchanting story, swimming in a light that never was on land or sea. Roger Pippett in the Daily Herald.
'Miss Farjeon has caught something of the romance and the eternal leisure of the unspoilt story-tellers of an earlier age."- The Times Literary Supplement.
'No fair since the world began was half so delicious or exciting or gay.'-New Statesman and Nation.
