Jen Mays | 385 comments The Princess Bride has always been one of my favorite movies, so reading (well, listening to) Cary Elwes’ behind-the-scenes stories gave me such joy. I initially started listening to it in my car while out doing errands and I kept trying to think of more places I needed to go so I could keep listening.

The audiobook is an absolute treat — hearing so many of the original cast and crew (Rob Reiner, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, and more!) voice their own memories added a whole additional layer of magic. I laugh-cried through all the tales about André the Giant — what a gentle legend — and I genuinely wanted to give Wallace Shawn a hug and tell him he was the perfect Vizzini. No one else could’ve done it like him.

Now I’m counting the minutes until my next rewatch, just so I can spot all the little details I learned about. I’m so glad that I didn’t have to “get used to disappointment” for this memoir.

The Princess Bride was the first movie our family went to that we all could enjoy. My kids might have been 8 and 11 or something like that, I was tired of only taking them to Disney movies and such.
