I cannot merge myself because the edition to delete was shelved too many times.

This book has an ISBN: 965-07-1105-8.
I there a reason not to create an edition with that ISBN and merge both of them into it?

You are correct.
An edition of the book with the ISBN already existed, with status = deleted. Apparently deleted by a clean-up bot - it did not have author and other details.
I restored it, added missing details and combined it with the edition you merged.
