Hi everyone.

My name is Tony Braithwaite and I live in Australia.

It’s a small world! Everybody knows someone diagnosed with or has signs / symptoms of autism.

I’m the author of a new Australian children’s fiction picture book about an autistic boy starting a mainstream school. He befriends a Ukrainian refugee boy. Together they navigate unknown challenges on their first day at school.

Everything and Everybody Belong Somewhere is more than a story—it’s a message of hope for children navigating the complexities of starting school, especially those with autism or from refugee backgrounds.

This beautifully sensitive picture book is inspired by my real-life journey with my autistic grandson, who also experiences sensory processing disorder and restrictive eating. It’s a heartfelt reflection of the challenges—and joys—of finding connection in unfamiliar spaces.

I'm a passionate advocate for children with developmental challenges. My prior work with Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Disability Employment Services (DES), helped families access vital support, therapies, and pathways to inclusion.

I'm a survivor of a life-threatening congenital condition and live with deep gratitude and a commitment to making every day count. My books—now in their fifth publication—are written from the heart and inspired by lived experience.

Everything and Everybody Belong Somewhere is available globally as a soft cover book from your favourite bookstore (physical store or on-line) or from my website: tony-braithwaite.com

Thank you Brenda for your reply. It is indeed a small world! Autism and sensory processing disorder are common health and well-being concerns across all cultures worldwide.

In my book, I've included a practical and compassionate guide for parents, carers, and educators with tips on supporting autistic children in early learning environments.
