Douglas R. Hofstadter -en su obra The Golden Plait (La trenza dorada), que habla de tres grandes hombres: el matemático Gödel, el dibujante y grabador Escher y el músico y compositor Bach- dice que en La ofrenda musical, obra de diez cánones, Bach deliberadamente los escribió incompletos. Hofstadter señala que «para subrayar esa calidad de potencialmente infinito» él llama a uno de dichos cánones «Canon en perpetuo ascenso», ya que con él Bach ofrece el «primer ejemplo de Circuitos raros», y define esta manifestación así: «El fenómeno ocurre cada vez que, habiendo hecho hacia arriba o hacia abajo un movimiento a través de los niveles de un orden jerárquico, nos encontramos inopinadamente en el punto de partida». Esto es lo que nos entrega Ariel Muniz en su prosa ágil y amena, inspirada en la idea bachiana.
