I really enjoyed it! This is the first book in the series I've read, and I didn't feel lost at all. I did have a sense that earlier books probably shared Gideon meeting, falling in love and marrying Julie. I really enjoyed the Gideon/Julie aspect to the story.

I actually checked on their meet etc. after reading Curses!, and it's in the first couple in the series. It's not stretched out over several but happens pretty fast. Curses! is an earlier one than I've been reading, so was nice to get hints of the newness of their marriage. Another I read this year probably for The Compass was one set on a branch of the Amazon in Peru which was fun. There was one set in a chateau in northern France that got me started on the series again several years ago. Not all travel outside the US - I'd forgotten that aspect of the series!
The team uncovers an ancient curse for disturbing the Mayan temple, which seems to be coming true. Lots of action, not much forensic archeology - which was fine with me.
A fun, quick read.
