But weren't you going to claim one of the 6 pairs as Moderator's Choice anyway, Rosemarie?

Usually I act as tie-breaker. Plus, it's hard for me to choose just one!

So please feel free to choose which pair you prefer, Jen.

Hmmm. Hard for me to choose too. I guess, why not go with the tide here- I'll support the South African writers as well. I'm curious what your vote(s) would be though :)

Oh and what does the expression mean "under the southern cross"? I haven't heard that before and google brings up various ideas.

The southern cross is a constellation of stars found in the southern hemisphere, Jen.

I really didn't know which to pick, Jen, so I'm letting members decide this year.
But the first read of 2027 will be Gone too soon-Bruno Schulz and Irène Némirovsky!

We try to have a diverse list each year so the South African authors are a good choice for 2026.

Greg | 68 comments I support 6. Gone too soon.

We have our final pick: Under the Southern Cross with three votes.
This makes our 2026 Reading Schedule one of the most diverse we've ever had, with six different languages.

Thanks for your input everyone!

We'll start off 2027 with a Moderator's Choice: Gone Too Soon. Bruno Schulz and Irène Némirovsky.

We'll be reading that as our first read of 2027 as a Moderator's Choice. Thanks for your vote. It's good to know that a couple of members( you and Jen, who nominated them) will already be interested in that pair. I've read one book by each author and am looking forward to reading more with the group.

Welcome to the group, Greg!
I recognize you from other groups we both belong to. We're informal here and our goal is to make reading diverse books interesting and fun.

Greg | 68 comments Thanks Rosemarie! I accidentally hadn't loaded the second page of comments so I missed that the voting had ended. Looking forward to 2027 and some of the 2026 picks too! Lots of great choices! I'll join reads for "10. Who's Guilty?" and "2. Let's go to Mexico!" for sure.

message 66: by Jen (new)

Jen R. (rosetung) | 456 comments Oh yay. The authors Gone Too Soon will get their moment :)

Wow, cool, six languages represented, and even more nations when you consider Marquez is Colombian and de Cespedes is of Cuban-Italian descent. This is an exciting lineup. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for all your work, Rosemarie! And thanks for the explanation of that expression about the constellation :)

Hi Rosemarrie, aren't these votes for 2026 where Nikolai Gogol and Mikhail Lermontov are group no 2, "Two authors who lived in 1830s Moscow"?

Rosemarie | 16129 comments Mod
Hi, Anisha.
The planning process ended a while ago and for some weird reason the update for the new schedule didn't show up. So I'm glad you spotted that and I will be updating the list now. Your pair is definitely on the list.

Hi, Nidhi. Our planning process was different from the other groups but you will be glad to know that all of your choices are going to be on next years schedule, or January 2027.
Next year I'll sent out a group message about this group's planning separate from the others.
I'm glad your choices are winners!
