Let's practice gratitude by playing a gratitude game.

team member: Jamie (The Rebellious Reader)
team member: Denise (mod)
team member: Danielle Gypsy Soul
team member: Jamie

The game begins Monday, Sept. 29 and ends Sunday, Nov. 23.
There are 8 weeks of the game.

Week 1: Sept. 29 - Oct. 5
Week 2: Oct. 6 - Oct. 12
Week 3: Oct. 13 - Oct. 19
Week 4: Oct. 20 - Oct. 26
Week 5: Oct. 27 - Nov. 2
Week 6: Nov. 3 - Nov. 9
Week 7: Nov. 10 - Nov. 16
Week 8: Nov. 17 - Nov. 23

Details:
You have seven (7) days to read one (1) book.

Rules:
You can't begin reading your book until Monday morning, 12:01 a.m. your time.
You must finish and report your book by Sunday night 11:59 p.m. your time.

If a team member does not make a Completion Post for a week, the team misses out on the points that team member's book would have added to the total. If that team member misses a second week, they will be removed from the team.

Exceptions are made for a planned absence or emergency. Another player on the team can use a second book to replace the missing points caused by the absence or emergency.

A player may roll for the next Week's task on the Friday before the next Week.

Books must be 140 pages or more.
Graphic Novels must be 200 pages or more.
Audio books must be at least 3 hours long.

Sample Completion Post
Book and Author:
Pages:
Date Read:
Task:
How it fits:
Is the word 'gratitude' or 'grateful' in the text of your book? (If so, quote the phrase and page or location in the book for an additional point.)

How the game works:
* Each week one player on each team rolls two dice.
https://www.random.org/dice/?num=2
* Using die 1 for the row and die 2 for the column, find the intersection on the grid.

Example: if you roll a 3 and a 2, move down the Rows to #3, and scan across for #2 on that Row. It is "Name a book you are thankful for"

* Read a book for the task in that intersection. As easy as that.
* Each book read during the week receives one (1) point for the team.
* Your book will receive an extra point if 'gratitude' or 'grateful' is in the text.

The team with the most points wins.

A team can only read the task in a certain box once. If you roll the exact numbers (in the same order) from a previous week, you must re-roll the dice for a different task.

Because the picture is difficult to read, all boxes are listed below with their tasks.
Row 1:
1) Name a friend you are grateful for - read a book from a teammate's Goodreads shelf
2) +2 points - read a book with '2' in the page count or publication date; your team gains 2 points
3) Share a memory you are grateful for - read a book set 50+ years ago, about an event that happened 50+ years ago, or published 50+ years ago
4) Name a holiday you are thankful for - read a book centered around or about a holiday
5) -1 point - read any book you'd like; your team loses 1 point
6) Share an activity you are grateful for - read a book with an action verb in the title

Row 2:
1) +3 points read a book with '3' in the page count or publication date; your team gains 3 points
2) Name a place you are grateful for - read a book about or set somewhere you have lived or visited
3) -4 points - read any book you'd like; your team loses 4 points
4) Share a family moment you are grateful for - read a book where family is important to the plot, or about an entire family
5) Name an object you are grateful for - read a book with no human or animal on the cover
6) +1 point - read a book with '1' in the page count or publication date; your team gains 1 point

Row 3:
1) Take another turn - read a book with two words in the title that begin with the same letter
2) Name a book you are thankful for - read a book in a series that you have started
3) Name a family member you are grateful for - read a book written by an author with any initial found in FAMILY

4) Take another turn - read a book with two words in the title that begin with the same letter
5) Name a song you are grateful for - read a book with 'song(s)', 'sing(s)', or 'singing' in the text
6) Share a moment when someone helped you - read a book from a teammate's Goodreads shelf

To do list -

First of all, pick a name for your group.
Second, decide who will roll the dice.
Third, decide who will make the team's Completion Posts. (It can be one person, or you can take turns. The team's Completion Post can be posted as soon as everyone has reported. Please have your team's Completion Post in by Monday around noontime.)
Fourth, decide who will be the team's verifier. I need someone to make sure that a book fits the task for the week. In a few instances, you will have to take the word of the reader that a book matches the task, but if it's a tag, cover, title, author initial, page count or publication date, those are verifiable.
Fifth, practice counting all that you are grateful for. There will be a lot!!!

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1934 comments Hi Team,

Looking forward to this challenge with you all. I live in Phoenix now but have lived all over the US, England and Germany. (I'm retired Air Force but now work from home as a finance manager for CBRE). I'm a single mom; but both my kids are away at college now (One in Washington DC and one in Flagstaff, AZ). I work to travel and have been lucky enough to see a large chunk of the world but I'm still working on seeing the rest LOL. I read 95% M/M and some M/F paranormal/fantasy romance. I'm also the moderator of the group My Vampire Book Obsession.

1. I'm here and I'm terrible at names but I'll see if I can think of anything.
2. I'm happy to roll but don't mind if someone else does. (I'm on MST as we don't observe daylight savings in Arizona).
3. I usually find it best that the last person to check in does the completion post but I'm fine with doing it another way.
4. I can verify or again happy for someone else to do it as well
5. I'm grateful for many things but it's always nice to keep it in the forefront of my mind.

Jamie | 88 comments Hey ya'll! I'm Jamie and I currently live in Alabama. I used to be an accountant, but became a SAHM several years ago when we got stationed in Germany. Now that we are back in the states, it just works to stay at home still while my two youngest are still in school.

I read a little bit of everything. I do tend to gravitate towards dark romance, M/M and fantasy (romantasy). But really if it has romance in it, I'll probably read it, lol.

I am also horrible at team names but I did a google search for some and here's a couple that came up:
The Positivity Posse
The Grateful Gobblers
The Grateful Four
The Attitude of Gratitude
Kindred Spirits
The Thanks-to-You Team

I'm home and online most days, so if we want one person to check us in, I'm happy to do that. I'm also good with the last person doing it. Same with checking posts. I don't mind doing that since I'm usually here throughout the day :)

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 502 comments Hi team! I'm Jamie. I'm from Texas. Since 2021 my reading has been 99% F/F books (romance, non fiction, horror, and everything else in between as long as it's sapphic). Romance is my favorite genre though, especially second chance and I love an Ice Queen character. Like, a lot. A lot a lot. LOL.

I read a bit of M/M and if I'm reading M/F it's Nora Roberts or a paranormal series (ie Anita Blake series, The Carpathian series, anything by Patricia Briggs or Ilona Andrews). Super excited for this challenge!

I have no team name suggestions but The Grateful Gobblers gets my vote. It got a good chuckle out of me.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1934 comments I love the Grateful Gobblers as well :)

Hi team!

Sorry for the late check-in, operating in a totally different timezone from the rest of you. XD

I'm originally from Germany, but have been living in Finland since 2008. I read a lot (a LOT) of different genres, M/M, fantasy, and F/F very much included, so if we get one of the "read something from a team mate's shelf" tasks I think we'll all be able to find something. :)

I have nothing creative to add to the name suggestions. Looks like Grateful Gobblers is the general favourite - works for me!

For the organizational stuff, I agree with Danielle that having the last person to check in each week do the team's completion post seems the most sensible approach. I'm also happy to roll or leave it to someone else. My time zone is GMT+2, so quite a bit ahead of the rest of you. I'll happily take the lazy route and leave the verifying to one of you! :D

Looking forward to getting started!

Jamie | 88 comments I say let's go with Grateful Gobblers.

Does it matter who submits this?

I've let Lanelle know.

Also, hey, it's Friday, we can roll for our first task! Danielle, you were the first to offer, so how about you do the honours and be our designated roller? :)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1934 comments I rolled 1,3 So our task is:

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1934 comments Mine is not a re-read set sometime in the 1800's but I'll have to read it to find out exactly when. Clockwork Pirate

I went ahead and checked us in. Turns out we never properly agreed on who'd do the check-ins (or the verifying, for that matter XD). Do we want to go with last to post their completion does the team post or shall I just keep doing it? I don't mind either way.

Excited to see our next roll! :D

message 21: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 88 comments Oh shoot, this was probably my fault.

I think it probably makes sense for the last person to do it.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1934 comments So we can roll again today correct; we just can't start our book until Monday morning at 12:01 a.m. your own time

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1934 comments I rolled 5, 5

So new task is: 5) +5 points - read a book with '2' in the page count or publication date; your team gains 5 points

message 24: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 88 comments I just want to make sure I'm reading the rules right. It's not a requirement for the books we select to have 'grateful' or 'gratitude' in them, right? It just gives us an extra point if it does?

Correct :)

message 26: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 88 comments Perfect! I completely missed that when I read the rules initially and then I saw ya'll marking this and started to freak out that the book I read didn't have it, lol. It did have it, but I didn't catch that it was optional.
