I'd like to join but still have limited internet access (Sundays and Mondays are usually the days it's least possible, Wednesdays and Fridays/ Saturdays are usually working much better). I wanted to make it sure it makes any sense at all to sign up. Should you need team captains it won't make sense this time around for me.
Agnieszka wrote: "When do we roll the die? Is it on the Monday of the challenge week or do we do it a few days earlier, so we can line up a book to start promptly on Monday?"
Teams can roll the die before the first Week begins so that folks can prepare. After that, I want teams to wait until Friday to roll. I will clarify this on each team's thread.
It's up to you whether or not this team challenge will work for you. I hope it will. On Fridays you will see what the next task is. You will have a couple of days to prepare and then begin reading on Monday morning.
If your team is aware that internet access is difficult for you and not to expect any posts from you until Wednesday or the weekend, it should be okay.
No captains this time. Just team members taking care of certain responsibilities: rolling the dice, posting the team's Completion Post, and verifying.

Thank you! I'll give it a try and hope for the best.

Team rosters will be posted in Message 1 of the info and sign-up thread.

Yeah! Thank you!

GR disabled the option to add Alternate Cover Editions (ACEs) for Kindle and Audible editions more than six months ago. Unfortunately they don't change those on GR fast enough to correctly show the covers we have on our devices (or for editions that got an ACE before they implemented that change but were not yet updated, those are done only by request in the Librarian Group - and happen very slowly) which can be an huge issue for freebie collectors that got initially a huge stash and read those as they manage.
Should any of us run into such an issue would you accept if you use the cover of an alternate edition (usually paper books - any GR member with librarian status can change those) if it's the same (at least that's the way it works in a couple of other groups now)? A screen shot can verify it's this cover if you need it - it's some additional work but possible. Would you prefer to decide each time it happens?

Yes, I'll accept an alternate addition or a screen shot. I ran into this problem recently in a different challenge. I was lucky to get a newer cover for a Kindle edition changed quickly.
I checked, and there are only two tasks (maybe three) with a cover task. Hopefully this won't be a big issue.

When I checked out possible task for this challenge I noticed there are some referring to covers and since I had this issue (in a different group and challenge) when I realized my cover is different from the one for this ASIN on GR. In such cases I usually added the ACE, for several months that's not possible now.
ACEs are alternate cover editons - if you go to Proper Job you'll see the Kindle edition is so very different form the other two available (there was a different - even older - Kindle edition two or three months ago, which was deleted in the meantime). My edition shows the cover that's on Amazon (same as the paperback edition)
Next to the link 'Edit book details' there's one with three points with following options:
- Add a new edition
- Add an alternate cover edition
- Combine editions
The middle option is not available for Kindle and Audible editions.
I remember there was a book with an ASIN and ebook as format (that is incorrect as ASIN - format B0... or B1... - always means it's a Kindle edition) so as usual I tried to change it to Kindle and found out there's no Kindle in the Format option list and when I tried to add it the other possible way - got an error message it's not allowed. After that I went to the GR Librarian group and researched changes since my last visit and found an official announcement about the changes in policy and the fact that Kindle and Audible edition can't be added to GR by librarians anymore and it's not possible to save editions with Kindle as format. The same is true for Audible.
I hope this helps.
Kathy KS wrote: "Is there a rule concerning books that might have Childrens or some similar MPG listed?"
Nope.
Nope.

That's so dumb IMHO. Very nonspecific. If we can't even add that, it would extremely limit the number of books added to GR. It's a really odd decision given that Amazon owns GR.
Charlotte wrote: "Are you allowed to read more than one book per week for the prompt?"
Just one book a week.
The only time you might read a second book is if someone on your team has a scheduled absence or an emergency.

How picky are we regarding the action verb. Example "lost" is an action verb. But when used in Lowcountry Lost it becomes an adjective.
My question is...if we just look at the word and it is an action verb like "lost" is an action verb so can read that book.
Another example "Stay Awake" both are action verbs but together becomes a verb phrase.
*Just wondering if I am putting to much thought into it. Thanks for your response
Mrs W wrote: "Question regarding action verbs for verification.

I am not picky. If the word itself (regardless of the context or usage) could be an action verb, then it's okay. Thanks for checking with me.

4) Share a family moment you are grateful for - read a book where family is important to the plot, or about an entire family
does the book have to be tagged family or can it be a part of a series about a family (for example, Elaina is book 4 in the Dimarco series)?

It does not need to be tagged family.
If you can determine from the book's blurb that the story is centered around a family or that family is important to the plot line, then you're good.

Mrs W wrote: "If the word "grateful or gratitude" is in the text multiple times do you get points for each time mentioned or ONLY 1 point if mentioned 1 or 50 times?"
Only 1 point.
Only 1 point.

I agree wholeheartedly and in case you’ve not noticed before it started with automated runs by Amazon (and caused a ton of issues - especially with ACEs and random page number changes) and was upgraded to this ‚improvement’ earlier this month. And from what I heard we are not the only ones unhappy with changes on GR created by Amazon. Though I don’t want to hijack this thread regarding this topic as it’s an endless and unfortunately as useless one.

Yay. Thank you (for asking and the answer) as I was wondering about it too :-D

LOL. Multiple points would’ve been nice in some cases (one of the books I consider for this challenge hat more than 100)

Of course I’d provide a translation (literal one if it makes sense) and a link to a dictionary for the relevant word(s) should you approve or other options if not - just trying to line up my books and see what I want to keep for this challenge and what read just because.
Agnieszka wrote: "Can we use [books in a different language] or would you rather prefer not to? ..."
Of course! And, yes, a translation would be needed.

LOL...so I guess the answer is ONLY 1 point per book per person in that given week.
Thought I would ask...☺️

What day are we supposed to roll...just wondering?

Fridays.

read a book with a title that begins with a letter in GIFT (you can ignore 'A' and 'An') Does it really mean all titles starting with ‚The’ work here or is it just wishful thinking?

Yes, you can use titles that begin with 'The'. (I usually say "you can use or ignore 'A', 'An', 'The', but it didn't make sense to include 'The' in this situation.)

I'd like you to wait until all members of the team have made their Completion Posts before posting anything on the reporting thread. They have until Sunday night to make their Completion Posts, so there's still time.
Kelly (Maybedog) wrote: "If we wait for them and they don't post until next week, do we lose the points for all the books or just the ones who haven't posted to our team thread?"
If those team members don't make Completion Posts, you will lose out on their points, but you will still get points for the ones who did.

1. Provoked - He provoked her
2. Change of Fortune - You change the oil this time
3. Fake Truth - I fake an illness
4. Sewing Suspicion - we are sewing a patchwork
5. Whispers - she whispers the truth
6. Lost in Fuseta - they lost their money in the casino
I have a couple other though don't know those authors and am not sure if they'll work out, so I wanted to keep something in reserve
An action verb is a verb that shows what the subject of the sentence is doing.
Anything with 'ing' is probably an action verb. Also, words like works, traveled, smiled, poked.
For your books, 'provoked', 'sewing', 'whispers', and 'lost' would all work. I'm not sure about the other two.
