Sara W (sarawesq) | 2153 comments ***YOUR FAVORITE EUROPEAN ROYALTY BOOK OR AUTHOR***

***ANY TIME PERIOD, ANY EUROPEAN COUNTRY***

Okay everyone, it's that time of the month - time to nominate! Anyone who would like to nominate ONE book may do so in this thread.

The theme this month is YOUR FAVORITE EUROPEAN ROYALTY BOOK OR AUTHOR. I threw in "author" just in case someone's favorite European Royalty book has already been read here - if that's the case with your favorite, please feel free to nominate another book by that same author. You can also nominate a book that you really, really want to read, but haven't yet.

Please try to check amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! If you nominate more than ONE book, only the first book listed will make it into the voting thread (so save additional books for the next months!). Also, if the book doesn't fit the theme, I won't add it to this month's voting list, but I will carry it over to the next theme that it does fit under if you would like.

Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until November 1st, 9pm Eastern.

At around that time, I'll make a voting poll and list all the nominated books in it, and people can vote in the poll until the poll closes (around end of November 5th). Discussion can start on DECEMBER 15th.

Happy Nominating!

Laura | 99 comments Sharon Kay Penman is one of my favorite author's. Several of hers have already been read but I didn't see this one, Time and Chance.

Lori Anderson (lorianderson) I adore Sharon Kay Penman! I've read "Sunne in Splendour" and both of her trilogies ("Time and Chance" is part of a trilogy) but haven't tried any of her mysteries.

Melhoned | 7 comments I'd like to nominate We Speak No Treason by Rosemary Hawley Jarman. Beautiful book about R3. The reprint I'd easily available through Amazon; it has been re-edited and slightly cut, so some may prefer to try to find an original used copy.

Cathie | 38 comments I'm currently reading Helen Hollick's Harold the King which is an excellent read. Elizabeth Chadwick's The Winter Mantle also involves King William after defeating King Harold but is more about Waltham, Earl of Huntington. Parke Godwin also wrote about King Harold in Lord of Sunset.

Nicole wild I am new to the EUROPEAN ROYALTY READING but my favorite so far is the Last Queen by C.W. Gortner.

message 8: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Nicole, welcome. I am new to the genre and the group too! What got me started was The Last Queen. I loved it!

Mandy Moody | 544 comments So the nominating category this month seems pretty open to interpretation...
I wouldn't call it my favorite book, and it's not by my favorite author, but I'd like to put up The Constant Princess

It's a Philippa Gregory, and I know many of you loathe her, which would make for a lively discussion!

The Constant Princess is a sort of prequel to The Other Boleyn Girl and is about Catherine of Aragon. I read it about 2 years ago and LOVED it. I would like to re-read it to see if I still love it.
I'm also dying for Sara to read it, knowing how much she loves Catherine and also how she feels about PG.
The discussion on this one could be lots of fun, I think!

Sorry, I've been on vacation. Either one - my bad for not saying that. I'll keep the thread open until 900pm eastern tonight.

Welcome to the group Nicole! We actually read The Last Queen by Gortner here when it came out last year. Would you like to nominate a different Gortner book? Amazon has one set during the Tudor time period called The Secret Lion (haven't read it, so don't know what it's like). Unfortunately his de Medici one doesn't come out until next year.

I read that for summer reading last year in my history class. I was really hoping to have a class discussion on it, but we just turned in our summer essay and forgot about it. It would be really nice to finally be able to discuss it a little bit. :)

Sara W (sarawesq) | 2153 comments Nominating is closed! Sorry this one got away from me a bit. I'm going to sub in that other Gortner book for The Last Queen since we have read it (Secret Lion was the only one I found by him readily available besides The Last Queen).

Oh, and I'll nominate The Queen's Secret by Jean Plaidy. Not necessarily my favorite Plaidy, but it's very good and would be fun to discuss.
