Yes!! Some people shelve their books SO STRANGELY!!! The worst to me are the adult books with "iffy" content that people shelve children-ya. I mean, MAYBE ya, but children??

I have noticed people put books on really odd shelves.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Isn't the shelving something?? I agree with the ones that people mark as children's or kid's. I don't know who their kids are, but mine wouldn't be reading them until they were a lot older. Another one I particularly like is the number of non fiction books shelved and historical fiction or contemporary fiction.

Exactly! Last round, I read a nonfiction memoir about a Jewish man's experiences during the Holocaust, and I was offended FOR him by people shelving the book as fiction! How rude!

I agree, the places people shelve things can be really strange.

I'm someone guilty of putting those books on a children-ya shelf. I read so few books for the under-16 set that I'd stick anything on this shelf: picture books, chapter books and ya-novels. It doesn't make sense for me to have separate shelves for just a handful of books. I've changed the name now, so hopefully I won't offend anyone!

(I have children's, juvenile, AND ya shelves.... but I read those books a lot, so...) I totally understand that people don't read enough children/ya books to have separate shelves. I don't have a problem with THAT... It's when people put books that are clearly ADULT books on a children-ya shelf... That's my issue.

167 shelves?

My most recent book had different shelves listed on the books homepage (where you can see 10 of the most popular shelves) and the page that when you click "More shelves..." ??? Some of the top shelves listed on the book's page weren't on the more shelves pages. Not sure what to do about that.

Could be that the system isn't updating the shelves as fast as it updates the shelves on the "more shelves" page?

I was wondering that... I know GR has lots of issues with caching. It's been off since I began the book 5 days ago. (When I started I noticed "anthology" was a popular shelf, but it's not been on the More Shelves page.) Maybe it needs a few more days?

I noticed another bug with shelf counts that I submitted to the Goodreads Feedback, but it was ignored. Bummer. (Try looking at a book's "More Shelves" first page. Click through to the second page, then without using the back button, click back through to the first page using the link. The numbers shift quite a bit. The URL query string "?page=1" is the difference. I don't think it effects the total count, though.)
