A commercial airliner with nearly 300 people on board suddenly begins to plummet to the ground. The pilot has had a fatal heart attack while the co-pilot was out of the cabin. His body has pushed the throttle forward sending the plane into a certain crash. The worst case scenario is realized when the plane smashes into a nuclear power plant in a small town in Minnesota. Everything that could possibly go wrong has begun to happen and while the nuclear disaster scale maxes out at a 7, this particular scenario is an 8. Hundreds of people are forced to evacuate the city as a dedicated group of scientists, firemen and plant personnel work together to contain the disaster knowing their window of opportunity to save lives is rapidly closing.
This is another exciting book from Newman but I almost wish I had read it rather than listening to the audio. The reader was fine but I think the constant number of disasters made his voice a bit overwrought.
