Moran Lee | 6 comments “Someone’s overboard! Help!”

“Oliver! Please—glug, glug—save me!”

The world rushed back in a blur of noise — frantic footsteps, distant shouts, the panicked hum of the crowd. I looked down, stunned. A white wedding gown draped my body.

I knew this dress. I’d designed it myself, had it tailor-made in Paris for my wedding to Oliver Thorne.

I had been reborn — thrown back into the very hour I was meant to marry him.

My head snapped up. There it was: the scene I would never forget. Isabella Summers flailed in the dark water, gasping. The life vest she’d been wearing moments before now drifted just beyond her reach, carried farther by the choppy waves.

And Oliver — the moment he heard her cry, he abandoned me, his bride, bolted across the deck of the yacht, and was already hoisting himself onto the railing to jump.

I’d run out right behind him. Instinct made me reach out, wanting to pull him back. I knew the truth: Oliver couldn’t swim. He was terrified of deep water. A childhood accident on a lake nearly took his life; he’d always said it was Isabella who screamed for help and saved him. That day bound them together in a way I never could.

Yet he insisted we have a yacht wedding.

I learned later it was Isabella’s idea.

This “accident”? Also hers.

Oliver’s mother never approved of Isabella. She made it clear their relationship was forbidden. He rebelled — refused to eat, locked himself away, even threatened to harm himself — but in the end, he bowed to family pressure. He agreed to marry me.

He said he loved me. But his heart had always been hers.

Isabella refused to let him go. She was determined to ruin our wedding, willing to risk everything — even her own safety — to prove she still owned his heart. She wanted me to see how far he’d go for her. She wanted me to walk away.

What a tragic, beautiful love story. I might have admired it — had I not been the fool standing between them.

But later… Oliver grew interested in the company I inherited. And when my health began to fail, he… changed his strategy.

Isabella choked, swallowing more water. The harder she fought, the deeper she sank. She never expected her vest would come loose.

A cold smile touched my lips. I took a step back, then another.

This time, I wouldn’t lift a finger to save her.

This time, I would watch them drown in the consequences they themselves created.
