Question of the week: How does the opening dream sequence set the tone for the novel? What emotions or expectations did it create for you as a reader?

happy reading and discussing :)

Aurelia | 3 comments My first thought was, “Well, there is life after Manderley.”
So, while I’m expecting spooky stuff to happen here, at least the MC is still alive.

The dream sets the tone of a place that mixes grandeur with a sense of dread. You are intrigued by it, even as it feels like anguish prevails.
I already wanted to be at Manderley.

message 3: by Ammari (new) - added it

Ammari | 4 comments I was swept off of my feet in the dreamy description of Manderley, desperately not wanting to wake up. I felt the shift in the next chapter was abrupt - as the dream dissipated harshly and I was thrust into Monte Carlo. However, my disappointment has faded as I get to know this man and young woman.
