Monique | 50 comments I love this novel but I adore priest's writing, so it's not a surprise. Also, I used to be a big fan of crime novels and then stopped reading them, but this book made me want to get back to them, so that's that 😄
Here are my reviews of first two vols (no spoilers) for some more fangirling.

ana ♡ (monleon) | 3 comments i haven't read a lot of Priest's works, but i'd say Mo Du stands firmly in the middle between Liu Yao, which i didn't like at all, and SPL that is one of my favourites. plot wise of course. if you’re looking for a something that blends crime, psychology, and slow burn this is definitely worth reading.

each arc is built around a classic novel, it sounds super highbrow when you first hear it, but honestly i've hardly noticed any correlation. i found the investigations to be far too complex for me and difficult to keep up with. it has moments where the threads become overly tangled and the pacing slows down, which might test your patience if you’re not deeply invested in unraveling every detail.

here is my review as well if you wanna check it out :p

V~ | 33 comments In short: absolutely! I absolutely loved this novel. It is a modern crime book, so I wouldn't say the world building is incredible, but the way the cases are set up becomes pretty mind blowing when you realize a certain twist.

I feel like what makes this novel so good is the characters. The characters make the story so funny, so sweet, heart wrenching, and a feeling I can't describe... It's like a love and respect for it. The love between the two MCs I'd say is so so so cute. It's so funny from the hysterical bantering and bickering... The chemistry... And... the gay panic! 😂 One is so horny for the other and he hates that he's so attracted to that other. 😂

In my opinion, Priest side characters are always so lovely. They drive the plot and the characters are never boring.

All in all. If you like crime and mystery, it's a great book. My favorites are book 1, 2, 4, epilogue and SIDE CHAPTERS!!!! 😭

Anyway, happy reading. 📚😊 I tried not to spoil anything.

BTW, due to Chinese censorship, it is a fade to black. So all sex scenes aren't there but implied. By no means does that mean it's any less entertaining nor romantic. The romance is so tender between the two MCs.

Thank you for some great reviews and discussions here 😊

The only question is when I will have the time to read all of these great books?

Lily . W | 23 comments I actually haven't yet cause I just recently got into danmei! I've seen so many good reviews for silent Reading and I just finished another novel so I'll probably start it this afternoon 💞

NiaKantorka (kantorka) | 83 comments And have you started it?
Tbh, I really enjoyed Silent Reading but I loved Stars of Chaos and The Defectives more (and - sshh - Guardian least so far). But Priest is a versatile author who writes many genres and - what I appreciate most about her works - her sense of humour is always top notch.

... | 270 comments No, no, I just spoiler-hid my opinion about Modu because I don't want to yuck anyone's yum about their favorite novel, some fans don't take it well. Even though I didn't say anything bad about it, but well, just spoiler-hid it anyway out of courtesy for the fans' feelings. 😂
